...and I hate the Red Wings, but Weber should have been suspended for slamming Zetterberg's head into the glass in Game 1. Fines mean nothing but a suspension in the playoffs would send a message for sure.

PS: Its Stanley Cup time people, where are the hockey threads?

I'm a wings fan, and I thought it was ridiculous there was no suspension for that. I think Shanny was a little too concerned with not wanting to look like he played favorites with the wings. In my book, when a guy misses with a punch, then grabs your head and slams it not once, but twice into the glass, breaking the helmet, you can't tell me he didn't have intent to injure.

Tonight should be an interesting game. Weber better keep his head up.

I was surprised by that as well, when I first saw it was thinking 2-3 games given Shanny's track record this year (which BTW I think is great - a welcome change from Colin Campbell's non-handling of things).

Some good Game 1's so far with four going to OT. Pen-Flyers is going to be entertaining throughout. B's game was a nail-biter with Holtby doing his best Ken Dryden imitation last night and keeping the Caps in it.

Best time of year to watch hockey!

That should definitely be a suspension. I couldn't watch Game 1 as it wasn't broadcast nationally. Will Game 2 be on nationally? Its tough to be a Wings fan in Texas when they don't show much hockey, let alone Detroit hockey down here.

I think all the games are being broadcast on NBC and CNBC. I know that here (in CA) once one game ends we can flip right to another game in progress.

I think all of the games are being aired nationally between NBSC (the old Versus) and CNBC. NHL.com would have the TV listings.

Thanks, I didn't realize they were showing games on CNBC. I'll look there tonight. It never occured to me to even look on that channel.
Good thing the NHL didn't take that ESPN contract way back when, right?

Flyers game should either start tied at 3 and only be 10 minutes, or we should just give the Pens 3 and play 40 minutes from there

I grew up in Michigan and loved watching Hockey Night in Canada on CBC. I do like the weather in Texas and not ever having to shovel snow, but I miss my hockey and Don Cherry's suits.

Center Ice on Directv- unlike the cable companies, you get every feed available- most of the time, it's both the home & away feeds in both SD and HD. Plus, the hockey channel, which carries HNIC.

So no one is going to comment on Zetterberg's original hit from behind against the boards on Weber to start the ball rolling on that play? I kinda don't blame Weber for being a little pissed...I think Shanahan made the right call on this.

Whether it was in retaliation or not, you can't grab someone's head and repeatedly smash it into the glass. If Zetterberg should have gotten a boarding call, that is another issue.

Katy, I agree, so perhaps putting him in the box for 5 minutes would have been a better punishment, but as it was game over, was not an option...Zetterberg got up with everything intact but his pride, so to me, an appropriate call. Byron Bitz (ex Bruin...BITZY!!) got suspended 2 games...which I also thought was an appropriate call...loved seeing the canucks lose, btw...

The problem is the NHL rules are not based on intent. They are results based. Shanny's hands were tied, read his statement. It is clear he also thought it should be more and may be something they work to change. But as it stands now, in the NHL if you have the intent to kill the guy but don't hurt him you won't get a suspension. When the league called the wings should have not said no he is fine, they should have said we are not sure and waiting for final clarification. Now there may be some testing protocal and timing that would not allow that, but they called the wings and asked if he was hurt, and they said no.

Not supporting the rules but thats the way they are.

You must have been putting in some serious miles during the early spring since both Alberta teams are usually counted out of the playoffs by just after the all star break! :)
