Do you also get markings from the swim googles around your eyes? Quote | Reply

I tend to get markings around the eyes from my goggles, especially below the eyes. My boss told me the other day "you really need to scale down on your training, you look like a dead man walking with these markings around your eyes". I think the comment was a bit inappropriate and I have never felt better as I am training a lot, but it does bother me a bit with those markings. I have tried several goggles and no difference. They are not even very tight! Anyone with similar problems and a solution?

Thanks

Racoon eyes :-D I have several school pictures whith some horrific red lines under my eyes from morning practice. Pretty much no way I know of to keep them from showing up. Maybe put on more makeup? :-P

I've got a half-hour drive from pool to work so by then the markings have disappeared, but I doubt I'd care if they didn't. They're not for me, but maybe those giant goggles that cover half your face? Don't know the brand name, but I'm sure you could source 'em pretty easily.

I've found that putting Aquaphor under my eyes befpre swims helps to protect the skin a bit. I will also remove my goggles whenever I can to give my skin some relief from the pressure.

Not very cool for your boss to say that (jealous people act that way though). I have yet to find a goggle that doesn't leave a mark. I thought Barracuda goggles would be the answer - but they aren't. Some people use those swim masks, but I find those leak, so I'm sticking with traditional goggles (and the marks) for now.

Find goggles that fit your eye sockets properly, and you can get away with not having them on so tight. (Even if you don't think your current best pair feels overly tight it still might be.)

Oddly enough, I get the fewest raccoon eyes from more minimalist goggles. Swedes and socket rockets work better with my normally tender flesh than something with significant padding.

Aquasphere vista is the big dorky swim mask. Work perfectly for me, used to look like a raccoon all day with traditional goggles. Highly recommended but ymmv

Man up and stare the boss down, "yep, I've got raccoon eyes, it's what happens when you pump out a 4.5km swim set in the morning I was holding 1:15's for each 100 in a 20x100m set, by the way, can we talk about my next promotion I think I've been doing a great job"

Agreed with all previous comments, i have never found goggles that don't leave marks but they do tend to go away after 30-60 minutes. My concern is if you swim for say 20 years will it have a longer term impact and you end up with horrible saggy bags under your eyes? I've only been swimming regularly for just over 2 years so not sure about this. On a slightly different point I actually find it painful when I take my goggles off, at the point the suction breaks it hurts a little. Is this normal for other people or do I have them too tight? Problem is if I loosen them they leak!

Try a bigger goggle?
I'm using Blue70 vision goggles and they are the most comfortable i've ever used.

I had this problem too. Switching to a smaller goggle like TYR socket rocket 2.0 worked for me. They are like swedish racing goggles but with what is a small rubber layer to make them more comfortable and offer a better seal.

I don't really have that problem and even if I did no one would care since my computer screen is the only one looking at me at work.
However, try the Swedish goggles. One girl I swim with had a similar issue and she swear by the Swedes. If you've never had one, it might take few times to get them to fit right but they are comfortable once they are on right.

I had the same issues, currently I'm training with Aquashere Vistas when I train at lunch, as they leave no marks on my face. I know they are BIG, but I have no raccoon face when I get back to the office.
