Good place to by a Cervelo P2 (online) Quote | Reply

Soon I will have enough spare change to replace my P2K (9 years fantastic service) with a hopefully slightly better fitting P2

(P2K is 650 and the P2 doesn't come in 650 so time for me to get a grown ups 700C bike)

Here in New Zealand, they want a phone number worth of $ so I thought I'd hunt around to see what competitive prices might be out there. Anyone know good international sites for a P2? Obviously I will need to add shipping to the price, but I am pretty good with math, so think I will be able to compare landed prices with local prices :-)

Soooo, time to put forward the name of your favourite Cervelo seller. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

My purchase was not international but also not local. Was very happy with Austin Tri-cyclist.

Like the previous poster said, you probably won't find new bikes online, but you can order over the phone from any Cervelo dealer and have them ship it. That's what I did for myself and my friend here in Korea; we ordered from a bike shop in North Carolina and received the bikes about 5 weeks later for what I think was close to $200 each in shipping fees.

I was looking for an overseas retailer, not Cervelo direct.

For example, I got my current P2K from Nytro in California (they were great to deal with!) and will certainly consider them again, but just wanted to cast the net pretty wide to begin with.

While price is certainly a consideration, so is reputation. I hate giving my money to dickheads. If you've had great experience dealing with a Cervelo seller, let me know and they will be on the list of people I'll see about buying from.

I would consider just buying a frame also, as it will get custom paint before I build it up and ride it.

It doesn't matter that it's not direct...a prospective customer is not allowed to purchase a Cervelo online through a retailer...

There are 2 approved places for custom paint... hot tubes in the US and the other is in Toronto. If you go for a frame get sram force for your group set...

For paint, I will likely get the same guy who did my P2K. He used to paint for Maserati, and now specializes in bikes. He does the New Zealand Cycling team bikes (or at least did, last time I talked to him about it) He is AWESOME and will always exceed expectations, regardless of how they might be.

I'm not worried about warranty, I'm worried about having a wicked cool bike.

I ride soooo slowly, that I want any spectators still out on course, to say, FARK, he's slow but what an awesome bike! :-)

I bought my last Cervelo online, through Nytro. I live in New Zealand and Nytro is in USA of course. I had no trouble last time, and I get the Nytro emails each week and I suspect they wouldn't have any trouble taking my money and shipping me a new P2. I could be wrong of course.

Right now on Nytro it seems like I am able to buy some Cervelo bikes online, while others say that it is only available through in-store purchases. Any idea if this is intentional or it's just a mistake on the part of Nytro to include those Cervelos for online purchases?

For example, I can purchase this but not this

Cervelo dealers are not allowed to sell Cervelo bikes online anywhere in the US. If Nytro is "doing" it then hey buy it online.....but 99% of the dealers in the US can't/won't sell Cervelo bikes online or over the phone it must be in person at a retail store...

Based on my understanding, if Nytro allows you to purchase that bike online then they should not be allowed to sell Cervelos.

I work for Nytro Multisport. Just to clarify, Nytro does not allow online sells of Cervelo bikes. We recently went thru a complete website refresh and are working thru any anomalies. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

IF Nytro turns out to be my preferred place to buy a Cervelo, I guess I'll just have to make the call to a buddy who lives close-ish and have him pick it up for me and ship it separately.

The Cervelo policy seems bizarre and anti-competitive as far as I can tell. Very strange if you ask me. Any idea what Cervelo is trying to achieve?

I buy tons of stuff online as lots isn't available here in New Zealand, or if it is, the local retailer charges well above recommended retail price plus whatever reasonable shipping might be. For example (from memory) the Cervelo website lists the P2 bike at (I think) $5600 New Zealand Dollars. The sticker in the Auckland bike shop (one of the three on the Cervelo website) I checked on the weekend was $6500. As far as I can tell, it was spec'd exactly per the website spec sheet. That smells bad to me.

Nytro has the P2 for $2800 US and last I checked, it would be around $700 US to ship to NZ. That's $3500 US which according to XE.com, is under $4300 NZD today. Now tell me why I wouldn't buy online when the kiwi store is trying to make over $2,000 NZD for what? That's just WRONG if you ask me. Even if the store here sold it for the recommended retail price I would possibly understand.

I don't mind paying what things cost, but I abhor when someone tries to rip me off. Not a good look Cervelo!

I'm sure competitive cyclist has some commentary on the situation on their blog as they were a very large online Cervelo dealer up until the decision was made.(heres the first release: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/...amp;WHATS_NEW.ID=385 ) other releases were less specific to Cervelo and more about the changing bike market.

Anyway, Cervelo said its how they ensure their customers get the best service after purchase.

It may be a way to make Cervelo dealers happy. Cervelo, like all bike companies, has certain order size requirements and advertising price requirements, etc. It's my understanding they are slightly higher requirements than some others, so it could be a way to keep their dealers happy. It's one thing to expect a lot from dealers; it's another to have those high expectations when a customer can go on the internet after going into their local shop and buy for 10% less. Trek, Specialized and Felt all have similar rules.

Best service? In New Zealand, based on my 15 years of visiting assorted bike stores, is that Service is a word that is banned by bike shops!

What service does a frame need? Why is a Cervelo dealer any better than a Pinarello dealer? The only service on a Cervelo that I can think of is to the parts added to the Cervelo frame and fork. Only the bits need service, not the frame. Best service? That's a BS excuse/marketing hype as far as I'm concerned.

I'm a died in the wool Cervelo fan extraordinaire, but this situation is already leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I used to love Cervelo's because they were two things. 1. Awesome bikes. 2. Engineered, not marketted. Seems like I might only like Cervelo's for one reason now.

I visited a few cycling shops while I was in NZ (Rotorua) this past Christmas. The amount that they were charging for a P2 was absurd in comparison with Canadian pricing, even with the exchange rate and taxes factored in. I can understand your desire to look elsewhere!
