PowerTap batteries dying in just a couple of weeks?

I've been going through PowerTap batteries really quickly all of the sudden. Is there a common culprit? Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

head unit or hub?
the LYC seems to drain if you leave it in the download cradle.

Not knowing where you live...Is it being kept long-term in a place that can get chilly? an unheated garage?
From personal experience here; PT's have worked just fine down to 0F for me, but the battery life isn't so hot in those conditions (i.e. 6-ish weeks).

I've had "mixed" results.
The set of batteries that came with the hub lasted nearly a year. The next set lasted only about 3 months, the set after that 3 months, and the current batteries are going on 5 months...

Sort of chilly. Central Texas. Not crazy cold, but in an unheated garage. 30's to 40's at night off an on. I'm definitely going to keep it inside and see if that makes a difference. Thanks!

luckily the batteries in mine are holding up well so far. However, I've been wondering how long they typically last?
thanks

You're using silver-oxyde batteries, right?

Not sure. Will check tonight. I use the ones I pick up at the grocery store. Where would I find silver-oxide ones?

In the colder months I go through hub batteries faster. For the head unit (LYC or Joule) I keep it and charge it in a normal warm room in my house. My Joule wouldn't hold a charge very long if I charged it in the basement at a colder room temp.
You're likely using the Silver Oxide batteries. But that's worth checking.

I typically go through batteries in the hub every 6-9 months, using it 3-5 days a week. If its not lasting at least 6 months in average temps, you might need to check with Saris on it and maybe have them take a look.

I had the same problem with my hub, called saris they sent me a replacement battery holder to put in the hub and been perfect since. Might want to look at replacing that part

Does anyone actually take out the plastic battery holder while to keep the batteries from draining? I own multiple hubs and I was thinking about just taking the battery holder out and putting them in when I need power readings. A lot of my time spent riding is on a trainer which has its own power sensor so I don't need the hub data. In addition I am hoping the batteries last longer and I won't have to buy multiple battery sets for my three hubs. Any downsides to this system?
