I have a 2011 felt b16. I know when working on a carbon bike it is highly recommended to use a torque wrench. I understand the need for this when adjusting the seat post. However when fitting a simple accessory such as a bottle cage how delicate an operation is this and should you always use a torque wrench.

Thanks,
Paul

I've not felt the need to use my torque wrench on my bottle cages. I just screw them down until it feels snug and then stop. Bottle cage screws don't need to be super tight, they just need to hold the cage without movement. If you're not sure, err on the side of slightly too little torque and check your cage intermittently. If it's working loose - you need to tighten more. If it's fine, then it's fine.

Cages, thankfully, are not rocket surgery.

While you should try not to over tighten anything, I think you should be fine here. I believe the bottle cage screws into an Aluminum fitting in the frame. So unlike the seat post or he handle bars, you are not compressing CF. you should have a lock washer on the bolt so if you tighten snuggly it will hold. Check periodically as you should all the bolts.
