DOES THE ST CLASSIFIED FORUM REALLY WORK? Quote | Reply

I am interested in selling my road bike in order to continue to afford the build I am working on for my tri bike.

Spec is 2011 Specialized Tarmac / Ultegra / Sram 60's

1) Is the ST classified forum the best place for giving this a shot, or does someone know of a better option?

2) Do used bikes sell?

It only works if you type in all caps. Beware of buyers/sellers who use lower case letters.

no, the classifieds don't work.

And I speak from experience: after dozens of transactions and thousands of dollars spent and earned, I should know.

Thanks a lot ST, way to go.

I haven't sold anything but I did just buy a set of race wheels recently on the st classifieds. I think the transaction went very well.

Wait a minute, though: "Dozens of transactions / thousands of dollars spent and earned".... Don't you see??? It IS working for you. It's so obvious to others based on your response, but not to you. This tells me, the informed reader, that you should look into a 12-step program about "results recognition". Either that, or PM me on what you are doing "wrong" so I can emulate you and sell my bike- after I host your intervention, of course.

Shouldn't you be standing in the expo at either California or Texas already with a bunch of tubulars over your back and pushing around one of your bikes instead of giving silly Craig's List advice in two different threads here?

I've bought and sold in the classifieds on close to 10 transactions. No problems at all. As someone mentioned do a little background checking into someone's posting history before doing business with them.

I've bought and sold on the ST classifieds and have yet to have a bad experience.

Re: DOES THE ST CLASSIFIED FORUM REALLY WORK? [OCD] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

Yes they work, but as always, use some common sense.

1. Proceed with great caution if someone outside of ST contacts you. Look at post counts of anyone who contacts you. And if you really want to get in deep, read their old posts.
2. Always keep your scam alert ready. If someone says here is $1200 for your $1000 item, but you need to wire $200 back to them so I can arrange shipping. Its a scam. If they live in Nigeria (sorry Nigerians) its a scam.
3. You can still use Paypal off of eBay, but if you choose bank check then you can always verify the legitimacy of the check pretty simply...call the bank. I did this for a bike. I got the certified check and called the issuing bank. They were kind of jerks, but eventually I got someone who could confirm that they issued the check.
4. It might not work, but call the seller/buyer and talk to them in person. I've sold three bikes on the internet, and purchased two. Each time I talked to the seller/buyer. You can usually feel them out pretty well.

I think it works best if you are looking to buy. My experience with selling has not been so good. It could just be my experience but it seems that people want huge bargains here. I have gotten a lot of really lowball offers and offers to trade. Anything I tried to sell here usually ends up on ebay or I still have it.

It definitely works. Just be prepared for the lowball offers. 70% of the asking price (no matter how that may compare to MSRP or fair market value) seems to be the popular choice.

I joined this site mostly for the classifieds. I have only been dissapoointed once and I got my money back. The classifieds here are pure unadulterated awesomeness.

The classifieds here only work if you don't mind getting great deals from good people. At least in my experience. If your looking to pay full retail or MSRP and get ripped off your in the wrong place...

Is it sold? or still you are finding some resource? Why don't you take help from different classified platforms?
