WTF....Lance playing poker and sitting up and letting the pack catch up and slide to the back....is this some type of a Sunday internval workout?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'hell yeah', what a ride.

whoa .... was that completely cynical? he sat up and let ~15 people pass him? that's funny.

given the runners that are in this peleton (and yeah, i think that looks like drafting. let's bring back the stagger rule for the pros.) i don't think there's any point to riding with them, he'll need to be off the front.

I love this quote from IMLive

Vanhoenacker is now looking back, trying to figure out what is going on. Even when he's not at the front, Lance Armstrong is controlling this race.

Absolute worst thing for a tri bike ride is surges and accelerations....I think Lance knows that and can deal better than anyone. That might be his strategy rather than just riding away on a flat course.

I wonder, would a race with surges help a cyclist in a tri? Instead of a long, well-paced, consistent effort, would a bike consisting of a few sprints force other racers into efforts they haven't trained for?

I've got Flanders on the t.v. and Texas on the computer. Add in some coffee, eggs and toast and this makes for a fantastic Sunday morning.

Two posts in a row like this, I think that might be part of what Lance was doing there. He may also just be doing some 'recon' on some of these top guys. When he drills it can MVH/Raelert match the pace and if not what kind of a gap can he expect over X number of miles? I think he wants to win today, but ultimately this may be some trial-and-error to prepare for Kona, see what some of his potential competitors are able to do on the bike.

So they will hit the turnaround pretty soon and I seriously doubt that Lance can put in enough time post turnaround to have enough buffer on Ralaert. Seems like he was content to show a slight show of force to say "I can toy with you guys if I want", but I won't show all my bike cards till Kona....I'm just going to keep scaring you guys with a solid run...

I'll tell ya, some of these 'gaps' are comical...what ever happened to passing once you're in the draft zone? These guys look like they're getting within 10 feet and backing off at times.

i think a lot of us would like to see him blow the doors off the field, but I'm starting to think that this won't happen until IM France, and not again until Kona. He's too smart to tip his full hand this early. After all, this is still only his second race.

May be his run training is going better than people will give it credit for, and he wants to cruise the ride and 'push' the run, just to see where it goes, and he's not so concerned about the win.

Best of all for Lance, Crowie and Cam trashed Fredrick Van lierde's legs at Melbourne.....Lance will be able to hammer the Nice bike, build a big lead (but we won't know how good it is in Nice) and shuffle through the run and save his legs for Kona....we won't see all the cards till kona

He's not going to top 5 without a gap off the bike no matter how better his run has gotten

I think he dropped back to give the whole "peleton" an ullrich stare down before he accelerates again.

i'm starting to buy this "surging" theory because at times armstrong pushes really hard - evidenced by his mouth being wide open.

What if he's ready to throw down a 1:03?

I keed...but it does matter, if his run has improved, at what level he's at now. I do agree, he's not gonna be running with the top guys in this race, but I'm interested to see how many of these guys he can hold off if he comes in with them or just before.

70+ posts and no mention of LA's trisuit color change!? I guess I better go back and check the main forum page to see if there's a separate thread for that.
