This really is a shame. I hope they can find him.

I agree. Although, from reading the book, Born to Run, it seems that he would often just disappear in the backwoods for days and months. He seemed to be off the grid. Not sure if that changed in anyway since the notoriety from the book.

Scott Jurek and some other ultra runners have gone down to help search for him. People who know Micah don't think he is off on a lark. They are taking this very seriously.

this area is one of the easiest to get lost in that I've ever been to.

The maps are 40-60 years out of date (many of trails/roads on them don't exist anymore), if you are away from the rivers/canyons there's pretty much no landmarks, and it can be pretty dry.

He had a flight the next morning so I don't think that is the case. Sure would be sad if they don't find him...

If I remember correctly in the book he talked about just running off into the wild when he was "done.". Hope that all is okay?

I read the book. Sounds like he was quite a character, even if only a part of what was said was true.

I met him a couple times. He was genuine as a person can get.

Very sad news.

I know the time stamp is 03.31.2220, but this had better not be an April Fools story. It would be a new low in journalism.

No April fool's joke. I've been following the search via an ulramarathon mailing list I'm on. One of the guys on the list drove over to help with the search.

That's a good idea Brian. Think I'll do that for this afternoon's run as well.

Louis Escobar, also in the book and a few others went out from California. It was one of the ultra runners who traveled with Louis who found him. This is sad news, Micah was an inspiration and great for the sport. He was as welcoming to new runners as he was to experienced pros. I was supposed to run rim to rim to rim with him this October. The run will now have a very different feel. May his soul and the the souls of all the departed rest in peace.
