Any sunglasses worth while other than Oakley? Quote | Reply

Looking for my next pair of shades. Generally I go with Oakley radar or Jawbone. Anyone have other brands worth checking out?

I know a lot of people like Rudy Project and Tifosi. I only use Oakley, but know others who have had good luck with the two I listed.

Rudy will make you a fan. Their glasses are the best I've found, and they have a great sale on now. I also appreciate how they support our sport. Usually packaged with more than one set of lenses, they have bar far the best systems going.

I'm a huge fan of Maui Jims. Mostly because of their repair policy, but they do make awesome glasses (all of their sunglasses are polarized). I had a pair of 3 year old glasses that the lens were super scratched, they replaced them for $65. I also stepped on a pair of glasses a while ago, sent them in, they replaced the frame on them for $8. They said they just replaced the frame, but the lens was missing some scratches when I got it back.

+1 on Maui Jim. Lost a pair this morning as some !(*#@#(!@#!) Team in Training gals moved all our stuff around to sit where on the chairs where we were set... When I finally got my stuff out (I had to get things from under their bottoms!) my sunglasses had disappeared.

If someone in Kona for Lavaman find a pair of scratched Kapaluas in or outside of a TYR goggle soft box... Please give me a holler! Got a new (cheaper---MJ Sports) pair but still Maui Jims given the crazy sun here. I dearly miss my pair of Kapaluas though :-(

The best reason to get those are the fantastic optics. I've worn mine everywhere, including for mountaineering on glaciers and have never been snow blind. Their antireflective coating is on both sides of the lenses and fantastic. The model I lost is also so light it never falls off your head, even with sails flapping in your face.

On my bike I wear some Smith and LG and like the Smith a lot for the wide coverage.

Don't like Tifosi's
I wear Smith now (frameless)
Maui Jims are great casual glasses. A fraternity brother of mine is a regional sales manager or something like that so I've gotten some pretty sweet deals in the past.

Oakley's are so far above the other brands, no need to downgrade.

The lens quality, durability, lenses staying in during a crash....no one comes close.

I have some fashion sunglasses for off the bike, but for biking/running it's Oakley all the way.

It took me years to bite the bullet and pay for Oakleys, but no regrets.

I have Adidas with RX lenses and my wife has Rudys with RX inserts. Both are great. My last pair were Oakley Juliets and I prefer the Adidas ones.

I have tried them all and find that Oakley are the most durable with Rudy Project 2nd.

Tifosi work best for me - very durable and sit on my face correctly in the aero position

X100 on the Smiths, I just picked up a pair of v90 max.
Got them on amazon "used" , basically just an open box returned item. Brand new, case and 3 lenses for $51.

I have a set of frameless Smith wraparounds that are great for riding the TT bike - no frame to interrupt field of view.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on that. Took me a while to buck up for Oaks, but I won't go back.
The optical clarity is fantastic, the impact protection is a plus, and I love the styling.

Also, for those who are fans of polarized lenses, Oakley really does a phenomenal job in that department.

I've had Rudys, Smiths, Specialized...Oakley are far & away the winners. Well worth the money, if you take care of your things.

I have some surfer brands for casual (VZ, Electric), but my next pair of casual will be Oakleys too.

I have a Kaenon Rx pair, love 'em. $$ but I took advantage of biannual new-glasses allowance from my health plan, made a good dent.

I have a pair of Flak Jackets that I run in and ride with on my road bike. On my tri bike I use Tifossi that are frameless - nothing blocking me in aero. They cost me about $40 - the Oakleys were around $140. Both serve a purpose - find some that fit your face well.
