Nutrition Storage Suggestions Quote | Reply

I am looking for suggestions on how best to store my gels/bars on my 2011 Blue Triad SP. I currently use an xlab rocket pocket on my road bike, but on the Triad the cables go through the top tube, preventing placement of the bag behind the stem. I liked the bag behind the stem because it kept things easily accessible. Should I just tape some gels to the top tube? Are there other options? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the Rocket Pocket not installing on your Triad. We designed the Rocket Pocket with extra long straps so that it could wrap around cables and the stem. Could you perhaps measure the strap that wraps around the stem? Just want to make sure that it is the correct length that it should be. You could also give us a call and we can see if we can work out a solution for you. 760-735-3215. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. My current tri top doesn't have pockets. May need to look into getting something different.

Cable routing is the same on my B16 and I've put a generic bento box behind the stem. The velco strap is just long enough to reach around the stem, after you finagle the position of the box and cables some.

Wow thats nice to see :)

Can you not just Velcro around the cables? I do on a 116, seems to work ok

i use this. i made it to screw into the speed concept top tube. it uses magnets on the bracket and taped to the gel flask. i dont have a good solution for storing bars...yet.

i also designed one that will mount to any top tube with a little velcro and a couple zip ties.

pm me if you're interested.

Have you considered mounting your Rocket Pocket on the seat tube.

The Speedpack 480 looks promising. How long are the straps the go around the stem? Concerned whether they would reach. Is it necessary to use that strap? Will the three that go around the top tube suffice? Thanks

DeSoto.... my tri bib and top have enough pockets to stow all kinds of things. I hate it when I'm wearing my other brand gear on training days and don't have pockets..... The pockets on the tri bib are so good I can put my car key in them, go for a 40 mile ride and never worry about losing it.

I think I answered most of your questions via PM. But if others want to know, the front straps are each 4.75" long, so they're long enough to give most riders the option to wrap around both cables and stem, if desired. With the Speedpack 480, you do need to have some sort of vertical anchor, typically the stem (or top tube aero cabling if your bike has that). However, with our soon to be released Speedpack 483, that pack will be able to mount quite securely to your top tube without any vertical anchor like a stem.

To get a better idea, this is pic of a Speedpack 480 mounted to a Felt with the velcro wrapped around just the cables (if you want to see high-res pics, we have these all posted on our facebook page):

Another interesting and aero option, with our 2-way zipper, a rider was able to make an easy mod to run the cables right through the pack:

For Trek Speed Concept owners (and soon P5 owners), a pic of the bolt-mounted Speedpack 480D:

Pic of a prototype of the new Speedpack 483 (it's meant to go on the horizontal top tubes of TT bikes--here it was just undergoing some testing on an MCX bike):
