Sandra 'I'm Entitled to Free Contraceptives' Fluke: Suppressor of Free Speech Quote | Reply

It's true, I swear:

As a student at Cornell and treasurer of a pro-choice organization at the school, Sandra Fluke, helped shut down a pro-life speech on Cornell's campus by counter protesting. She argued that a pro-life organization at Cornell was about "manipulating [students'] emotions" with misleading statistics about abortion.

So...she's on Capitol Hill demanding she have her say in a hearing that actually had nothing to do with birth control, really, but it's okay to try to suppress the speech of those with whom she disagrees? Cool beans, bro!

Sounds to me like she protested. Which is exercising free speech. How exactly did she shut the place down? Anything besides standing outside with a sign? I dont have.anything to go on besides your quote.

Also anti abortion campaigns do often try and mamiulate emotions and misleed with stastics.

Ron Jeremy is so yesterday (to give you an idea, he was in plenty of "films" back in my teens in the mid-70s). Who's the big name in pron these days? The girl's a poster child for the entitlement society, I gotta say. I personally don't care why she needs contraception or how much of it, but I'm still trying to understand why a women rich enough, and supposedly smart enough, to get into Georgetown Law (as well as anybody else going there) needs me to front her a grand per year (three grand, total) for her time at Georgetown, which is a Catholic university, where the idea of birth control is verboten. Now, all of a sudden, the Catholics gotta bend over and take it from this woman?

She organized a "shout down" with a number of others and created such a stir that the free speech rights of the folks trying to make their own point (which I don't normally agree with one-hundred percent) on campus were suppressed, preventing them from being heard. Even back then, and it wasn't that long ago, apparently, her "community activist" touch with the old Soviet-style agitprop, was honed to a fine degree.

Talk about intolerance, eh? But typical of much of the Left, she mistakes the whole concept of tolerance, which I wholeheartedly support, with acceptance, which is a completely different thing. We all have to tolerate in order to live in a free society, most would agree. What we don't have to do is accept, which most of us would also agree about. She didn't accept, in effect, and therefore exercised intolerance through her suppression of the free speech rights of others, when what this future lawyer should have done is tolerated it and supported it as an inalienable right.

I dont agree with trying to stifle free speech. sometimes the best counter to stupid speech is to give them a microphone. Look how many people are pissed at rush for example.

Exactly so. You counter speech with more speech, not by trying to shout it down or otherwise suppress it. If I was of a mind to equate her tactics to what I'd say they are, I'd be violating Godwin's Law, and I'm not here to do that. Or allude to it. Maybe. Or maybe not. ;-)

Did you see "The Misogynist Left Mash-up" on YouTube, by the way? No? Well, here it is. ;-)

I don't think so; Obama' peeps called up some women's college today and got him a speaking gig, and he's set to have a rare press conference tomorrow, so I think they're loving this woman as well.

"The White House called the college in recent days and offered up Obama as the commencement speaker and the college promptly accepted. Originally, New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson was set to address the graduates before the White House called the college."

Yup, old Jill got kicked to the curb slicker than snot, proving yet again that the Left don't give a shee-ite about women, really. Most conservatives -- most decent people, actually -- would've told the Obamanauts that they already had a speaker and that it would be rude to cancel her out. Just shows you as well how much for granted the Left takes its handmaidens. I mean women! "Handmaidens" is only used by the Left when it's in secret conclave at the all-male clubs that it tends to frequent.

Whatever stretch it is, it still doesn't take away from the fact that the Left is full of this sort of behavior. Women are a useful tool for them but that's really all they are: tools. The Mahers, Taibbis, Mr. Ed Schultzes and all the rest of 'em aren't aberrations, they're standard features. Women get treated far more as equals on the right side of the house, in fact. Hell, most of the best of the leadership on the Right is female-centric. I'd put the Ingrahams, Crowleys, Borellis and all the rest on the front lines of the fight any day of the week. They're all packing a bigger set of balls than most of the men over here, that's for sure.

I bet she walks down the street and can see it on their faces. They want to be women but can't afford it while going to Georgetown Law School.

I thought the story was that Rush called her a slut and a whore. I don;t really understand what you are trying to accomplish. Discredit her? She's nobody. Do you honestly think that pointing out that she's an activist, or even a hypocrite should make a difference? What, it's okay to imply that woman who want contraception covered are sluts and whores because Sandra Fluke is an activist is actually going to gain any traction.

BK, you are really good at preaching to the choir.......and you seem like a cool guy.....but other than that, you ain't accomplishing much!

Is there any doubt left that the AMA is useless?

"In Mario v. P & C Food Markets, Inc., an employee who was denied such coverage brought claims under the federal Employee Retirement Income Security (ERISA) and Title VII. The court rejected the ERISA claim, finding the plaintiff's mastectomy and hormone therapy were not medically necessary. The court's ruling was based upon controversy within the medical community regarding that treatment plan. Much of that controversy has been linked to ignorance and bias against transgender persons, and the American Medical Association has declared the lack of coverage to be discrimination."

I love reading comments.

Actually, you're not paying for anything. The employer is (proposed to) pay for the birth control.

No Free Lunch 2 comments collapsed CollapseExpand
Um. Really? You think that if the money is coming from the employer, you, the employee is not paying for it? Read slowly, and several times, as this seems to be confusing to many liberals: There is no free lunch. If your employer has to pay more for health insurance for prodedures that are not medically necessary, his profits go down. If his profits go down, he can not reinvest in his company by hiring you, or paying you more, or providing you with other benefits you may prefer. Once again, in case you missed it: There is no free lunch, or free birth control, or free welfare, or free anything. This includes the "free" government health care.

What in the hell have citizens been doing for the past century in regards to birth control?
Please explain how this all of a sudden became a crisis, if isn't just a phoney election issue.
Last week - no issue!
This week - National Crisis!
Do you even understand the difference between extortion and free enterprise when it comes to insurance?
What's next week's issue, free boob jobs, facial transplants or hair plugs?
Where do you draw the line on freebies?
Half of the population is living off entitlements, unemployment and/or actually employed by the government.
Half of the population pays no taxes at all.
Please, do tell "Where do you personally draw the line"? Try to show a little integrity in at least answering?

Hey, he loves that you are spanking this mare 24/7. Keep it up, you are losing the female vote more badly every day. Come on, dude, your OP is all about bullying a random woman with a tired "attack the messenger" slam. You don't EVER win an argument against a women, especially with a personal attack (how long have you been married?). I really thought that you were smarter than that.... Face it, give up, you have completely lost. Retreat, regroup, and try again....
