No one will care about you if you are injured. Seriously, as much as we like to think that ST is this great community no one from the challenge is going to be picking up the phone, and calling you and swinging by your house when you dealing with your injuries. But you'll care and you don't want to go there. Play it smart.
As bmanners said, people will wish you well when you get hurt, but that really is small consolation when you can't run.
The challenge is 3000 minutes of running in 100 days. My training plan has me on ~1150 minutes in the next 100 days. The difference is large enough to tell me that I shouldn't try.
And I really don't want to get hurt. A co-worker bet me dinner that I can't break 20:00 for 5K by the end of 2012. I really don't want to lose that bet and I've still got a lot of training to do to get there.
I'm competing against my current fitness level, and planning to kick my a**!

This is asking for injury. Ran 1:16 off the bike for HIM off of 3-4 runs a week. It can be done off much less frequency.

I will put my neck on the flame line and say I think you guys are all nuts; which is somewhat likeable really. But 100/100 days is a runner program at a professional level. We race triathlon. 100 workouts in 100 days seems more tri-specific.
good luck to all over you, stay fit and safe.
Hi Rhys....no need to be negative without knowing the full context. 100/100 is just the title. Lot of people running 40-60 times over 100 days. Those who do more than what they are ready for, can get themselves into trouble.
Everyone has to manage their own limits. Not everyone should shoot for 100. In fact, few should.
Just like not everyone should go on the training plan of a 31 minute 10K runner. You probably should have searched the full context to understand why some are involved. Not everyone is shooting for a ton runs. Many are in it for the peer encouragement and company in achieving their goals. Feel free to join in and shoot for you own training objectives. It is actually a lot of fun. People generally find 10-15 people around them with similar goals after around 30-40 days and its fun tracking what each other are going (and leaning on them for motivation).

I'm out this year. And of course there would be prizes....
That is unless Francois writes it into my training plan. (Please don't, please don't, please dont.......)
Last year was a blast at times, was stressful at times. I had forgot about the challenge and missed the second day, but then reeled off 100 consec after that (starting on 12/17/10) including some early morning runs to get them in, a couple runs at the gym starting at 8:29 when the gym closed at 9:30 and a lot of help from my parents watching the kids (I was a single dad at the time) at some pretty key times to let me squeeze a run in.
Definitely was motivation to workout over the holidays and through the crappy Pennsylvania winter, and I reached my goal of 100/100. Good luck to all those that are undertaking the challenge this year.

And running up to your potential can be done on much more frequency. If done smartly there's no reason someone of appropriate weight who isn't genetically limited in any way can't run 30+ minutes every day. 1:16 is fast, congrats, but no one is reaching their full running potential running 3-4 times per week.

Partly inspired by these annual threads, I started my goal to run everyday back at the beginning of July. Started @3mi "runs" 5x/wk and went from there.
July/Aug - I was 46/62
Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec -
I officially hit 100/100 today
, although there were a total of 14 days with zero runs there were 14 days with multiple runs.
Went from 15mi/wk to 50+/wk, no injuries, and no running background.
5K from 25:XX to 21:XX (I think that I could just barely do sub 20 now)
1/2 from 2:10:XX to 1:39:XX
Looking to keep this up through the Spring, and see where I wind up, thanks for the inspiration.

Dev,
I like this. More than a few don't seem to get it. Not sure why( sorry, I know talking down again - genuinely trying to help!)?? There are few guarantees in endurance sports training, but one of those almost guarantees is that
if you do this right
, you'll be a faster runner at the end of it.
Many want to dress it up and make it more fancy and detailed than it really needs to be. All you really need to do is run - just run!
Several on the board have sited the blog I wrote on this a while back as helpful:
http://stevefleck.blogspot.com/...nning-frequency.html
More than a few have reached out to me with a big thanks - but I really have not done anything other than to just suggest that they run a little bit
every day!
Also suggest people to seek out BarryP's threads & "plans" on this on the forum. For those that absolutely need to put some numbers to it, then have a look at Barry's "plans"
Either way you should arrive at the same destination - fitter, more efficient, more durable, and faster. It's not that complicated. Just run!

I'm going to venture a guess that at some point in your life you ran more than 3-4X/week.

Generally speaking this sort of thing is not targeted at you. If you are running 1:16 off the bike ina HIM, that's an outstanding run performance. It's Pro level. Well done.
The people that get injured doing this typically are over-thinking and over-doing it. People need to run at length and at an intensity that is repeatable, day after day after day after day after . . . .
Run every day is a goal, but you should not become a slave to it. If you need to take a day off - take one off. If aches and pains come up that don't go away, and get worse as days go by, then you need to back off.

Not getting chicked will make the kids proud (or at least not embarrass them), running 1/2 hour a day - not so much - As my son is also racing his 1'st "adult race" there - I need to focus :)

Thanks Fleck. You are indeed correct (and no, you are not talking down, you are stating things very clearly and it is appreciated). There is no magic....just go out and run and get it done. Run smart and safe and maximize volume within the scope of the base you have today, not what you wish you have today :-) Now I wish I just had an endless pool with convenient access, cause I'd probably want to swim 30-60 minutes per day for 100 days in a row, because I'd benefit more from that given where I am in my training, but sadly, my pool access is limited

Dev - thanks for setting this up. This will be my second year doing the challenge, I was fairly inconsistent last year and ended up around 60 runs or so. Would have had 70ish if it weren't for that nasty cold I got in January. Thanks again for putting this together, I'm very much looking forward to the challenge. Shooting for 85+ this year.

First was the full ass challenge causing me to up my short runs to 25 minutes. Now the 100/100 challenge pushing them up to 30 minutes. Before long anything short of an hour won't count. Where does the madness end?
But really I'm excited about doing this challenge for the first time. In August I finally started a consistent running program with my long runs topping out at 30 minutes. Now the short runs are in the low 20s.
My goal is 80/100 leaving me in great condition for my first half come May.
My wife fears this sort of thing will turn me into a runner. I fear she's wrong.
Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for setting this up, Dev! I am totally in and will shoot for 75 runs. This will be my first 100/100 challenge. Last year I was coming off an injury that knocked me out of work for two months so training was out of the question. When I got back to training I totally revamped my plan and started running 6 days a week. I have been up to 30 miles a week since November 1. My running has greatly improved with this increase in my running frequency. This past September I completed my first HIM without having to walk a single step during the run. The previous 6 HIMs saw different degrees of walking as I could not figure out how to run without getting injured (I used to run 3 or so times per week). For me, frequency seems to be the biggest help. I must have run 300 times during 2011 and I didn't have so much as a single ache or pain (soreness...yes, but no injuries!!!). I can't see why I won't be able to continue with my frequency and slowly up my mileage to 40 per week. Not sure I want to go more than that though as the time crunch would severely limit my biking and already weak swimming. A few years ago if someone told me I would easily be able to run 30 a week, one week after the next, I would have thought they were crazy! Look for me to do many 30 minute runs near the beginning of the challenge but I am all in!

Thinking about doing this. As a point of clarification (I've actually been thinking about this recently)...
Suppose I'm doing hill repeats. 6x 1min on the uphill with a 10 second pause then 50 seconds on the down. Between each hill rep, I walk for about 1 minute in recovery before the next set. Does that 1 minute of down time count towards the 30 minute requirement or not?
Regardless of the decision, it's good that this is happening.
