Warming up my humble pie

Heading to my first road race. So far, my buddies have given me this advice:
1. Don't crash
2. Stay within the top 5-10 at all times
3. Don't pull
Any other wisdom out there?

#1 is easy. #2 and 3 not so much depending on the guys, the wind, the road. But tough it out as long as possible. If you fall off the back power back in asap. If the peleton gets away even a bit then you will be out of luck.

Not pulling is different from not being on the front. If the pack is really slow its OK to be on the front just cruising. Also if its really slow and you want to do something, then attack. Judt don't go to the front and Time trial with the entire group sitting on you.
