How many race are you planning on racing this year and why? What are the distance's?
Myself i am doing two half's (one is a bit shorter called half lite.)
Two olympics
And three sprints.
Might try to throw one or two more in some where.

I've cut the number of races and gone short due to the having a newborn. We'll see how it works out.

2 Duathlons
5 Sprints
4 Olympics
1 HIM (possibly 2)
1 Marathon
1 10 miler
1 Road race

1 OD (beat last years time), 1 half (see where I am at fitness wise), and 1 full (first and only). Would love to fit in another but doubtful.

Yep newborns take a lot out of you. Suprised you can find time to race that many.

1 half marathon (I know you asked about Tri's)
3 Oly
2 sprints
1 70.3 (first one!)

Debating one more Oly or possibly another 70.3. Need to find something in Sept!

Re: How many tri races? [Bmanners] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

I'm signed up for:
A duathlon (10km, 40km, 5km) - next weekend
Boulder 70.3 (Aug. 5th)
Ironman Wales (Sept. 16th)

I intend to sign up for:
A trail half marathon on June 10th
A (hilly 28-mile) bike race on June 17th
An olympic on June 24th
An olympic on July 29th
A sprint on August 18th

I may enter some other races last-minute, depending on how I feel.

Why? Well, it's motivation in small steps. It's hard to visualize a race as big as IMWales this far out, but sticking to the training plan is much easier with races in the interim. Also, I have to defend my honour in the bike race - I've won my AG the last two years so I need to get the hat-trick.

Why Ironman Wales? As a fundraiser for a charity helping uveitis sufferers (Olivia's Vision). Uveitis is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in the developed world and has taken the sight of many children. It's a cause very close to my heart as I also have uveitis and in fighting to keep my sight I can only imagine how terrible it must be for the kids. Next year I'm going to cut back on the tri (maybe one 70.3 and some shorter races) and do some more bike racing.

So I'm learning. I didn't think I was being overly ambitious, but it's starting to look that way.

The list so far:
  • 2 olys
  • 1 sprint
  • 1 HIM
  • 2 more sprints
The olys and the HIM will be firsts for me. Multiple other non-tri races scheduled in preparation for the HIM.

My wife is due early June, I have been hesitant to put down the money on much of anything yet.
So far it will be a sprint, and oly, and some road races. Maybe a time trial or two.

My suggestion would be to do races through the first month. The training is in the bag at that point, so it's a good time to race. After that, the lack of sleep and lack of training is starting to take its toll.

AG Nats
And 70.3 WC, if I qualify at BSLT otherwise something else -Xterra hodgepodge or AG Long Course Nats or local stuff or gin and tonics on the deck
And maybe Kona, if I quality at BSLT - but I can't seem to get emotionally behind this option
And probably 2 or 3 local sprints
and possibly a local OD

Well I wish we had tris staring earlier around here but as the swimming locations are still covered in ice (but the edges are just starting to melt), I guess it would still be rather cold. So, can't get started till June and then it's all done by August. So, I'll be getting in 2 sprints and 2 Olys. Might get in a 3rd Oly but that is only if training goes better than planned.

So far:
2 cx races
3 sprint tri's
2 road races/circuit races

To come (hopefully):
1 more sprint
3 olys
1-2 road races
1 70.3
4-5 cx races
A couple 5k or short running races

I have deceptive speed.........I'm slower than I look!

I am hoping thnking maybe a few sprints sprinkled inbetween. Was on track to win a sprint series before accident last year. So if it does not conflict with family stuff and work i will try to do that series which is three races.
We should try to get a post race ST drink group after AG Nats in Burlington. Qualified for both but doing the sprint.

Signed up for:

3 duathlons (2 shorter and one longer)
3 sprints
1 Olympic
1 70.3

A few single sport races.

May still add:
1 sprint
1 duathlon

If the weather is bad for the Olympic which is out of town, I may drop it and race a close to home sprint since I've already paid for both.
