X2
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'hell yeah', what a ride.

Raelert flatted, and wasn't carrying a spare? Really?

ETA: I guess it's cool to not carry a spare when a support car will just give you a new wheel...

He looks to me like he's really hammering it...very, very interested to see if he can hold this, and if so what kind of run can he have with an hour of this kind of pace.

And Raelert with a flat...that SUCKS, I was really, really looking forward to him throwing it down from behind in the run.

As someone with a stutter, I recognize it...he deflects to alternate words quickly to increase his fluency...

Big props to him for tackling a live call with it...it is a frustrating thing.

Realert flat...bummer

I have never actually looked for spare kits, but do pro's not carry flat 'oh shit kits'?

LMAO... love Lieto talking about raelert losing 45 seconds over the rest of the distance of a boxed rim versus a disc.

wow Raelert from unlucky (and unprepared for) flat to jumping on to go and having one of the expected uber-biker roll by to pace with.

So Raelert and that cadence...you think he's done some testing around optimal cadence? I just can't believe something that low is his 'best' cadence, maybe I'm wrong but that just looks way low.

Dunno. I'm sure if there were no neutral support vehicles they would carry a spare. I just am not sure how neutral support vehicles don't constitute outside assistance, even if the RD wrote it into the rules.

Anyone know whether it's normal to 1) not carry a spare, 2) have neutral support vehicles?

i gotta say this again, but this is the best ironman feed/coverage i've ever seen. Nice to see the Armstrong investment in effect. Kona will be epic. There's no need for this to be on NBC or whatever.

Yes and Yes....Crowie won 70.3 WC using a support wheel after a flat.

This could change the face of triathlon. That is if the fastest times start getting posted in non-drafting events. I am thinking a TT set up and a fast dude might start going faster than a ITU darft pack. That is unless ITU start putting riders in just to up the bike speed.
As a spectator I like to watch the fastest people. And triathlon was originally an individual sport so this is going to be interesting.

If LA does win he will be a marked man in triathlon. Triathlon will be all about beating him this year and the other interest will be the new gold medal holders.

Who is Hermann Memmorial?

Lance just picked up a minute in the last 4 miles. Maybe that 5 minute lead is still possible? Jesus he's flying.

question:

Do you get a bigger gap on the rest of the field by pushing harder into a headwind or tailwind?

I wish that they would tell us how far LA is ahead.

The women are racing in a "ironman" tournament apparently.

What is the camera covering?

Anytime the conditions are harder, ie uphill or into the wind, you can gain more time.
