No, parking won't be better. Downtown/Quarter offers a ton of pay parking garages, and my friends and family actually managed to find two street parking spots within a block from the finish. However, for most people, parking is a total non-issue because you park at your hotel or in a garage and walk over to the finish. We only parked in the area because we are sort of local and were going straight home after the race.
The problem with the park is that all of the spectators will be converging onto the area around the same time. They won't be staying or hanging out in the park like they would be in the quarter. Assuming the average finisher is somewhere between 5-7 hours, I would guess there will be a mass influx of vehicles around 5 hours after the start. And the other problem: the roads will be closed. New Orleans can be difficult to navigate when all the roads are open.

Don't like the change as I loved the finish line. Got in on the early bird special but not sure if I would sign up again but since I am in Baton Rouge its nice to make a 70.3 without having to deal with typical travel stuff.

I'm not happy about the new finish, but this is logistically a lot easier and it makes sense to finish in City Park.

and by the way, every other major race that is held in New Orleans finishes in City Park. It's awesome there. The old finish was one of the best in triathlon so from that perspective it's disappointing. But if you are signed up for the race you will still have a decent course with the City Park finish.

Logistically easier for participants and spectators? I disagree.

City Park regularly handles 40k+ person races. It's easy to street park there and walk to the finish.

I signed up a while ago when they had the $199 offer. I was looking forward to running in the FQ. Kind of disappointed in that aspect but it is what it is.

For those races (Crescent City Classic and Turkey Day Race) most or all the streets surrounding the park remain open (including Robert E Lee, Marconi, Harrison, Wisner, City Park venue, etc). It is hard to imagine a 13 mile running race that commences at UNO and finishes at Roosevelt Mall and leaves those streets open (Marconi, Wisner, Harrison have all been used in previous years and that still left 3 miles to go after the park).
In addition, the races you are referencing have pretty substantial parking issues:

When has City Park, or NOLA for that matter, ever had a 40k+ person race?
The largest NOLA races ever were during the running boom in the 70s when the CCC had 30k, and that race ended at Audubon Park. Even with spectators City Park has never handled a 40k+ person race. The closest to a 40k+ person event in CP would be Voodoo Fest, and with no streets closed for it (except inside the park) the parking was terrible.
Yep, agree with the earlier posted links - Don't park on the Neutral Grounds (medians).

The RNR Mardi Gras Marathon and Half finish in City Park - point to point race starting at the convention center. If I remember correctly, they had the outside perimeter roads blocked for the last part of the marathon, some of which were the same roads for NOLA 70.3. As far as parking, when I did this in 2010, they discouraged spectators from driving to City Park and bused people in and out of the park to and from the Superdome and downtown hotels.

I wonder if they'll keep the original 70.3 run course now that both races aren't going at once.

I heard that they would be held on separate days this morning - something to do with the sponsor not sponsoring two events. Whatever, but they sure need to get it straight soon. Active.com has it listed in May.

Has anyone heard any news more recent than the Nola.com article? The official website, ironmanneworleans.com, is still being advertised on the homepage as, "Come race through the city of New Orleans and finish in front of Jackson Square in the French Quarter!" Also, the run course map is still showing the finish in the FQ. Have the organizers changed their mind about the finish line or are they just painfully slow at changing the event's website?

I signed up for this race due to the fact that it ended in the quarter and I could walk to our apartment in NO after the race. I wouldnt have signed up if I knew it was going to end way on the other side of town! The website still says finish on Decatur in front of Jackson square, if it has changed that is B.S.

I did this race last year and it sucked bigtime not being able to do the swim, which the size of the waves should not have been an issue. I was about to sign up again and i didnt want to take the chance on them canceling the swim again so im going to find another race to do.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'hell yeah', what a ride.

by definition, if you hold two events at the same time then neither is that important--would you ever see Kona and Kona5150 at the same time? I'd hate to be kicking hard to the finish line with a guy with my number on his calf and then realize after the fact that he wasn't even in my race....

Usually you can wait to sign up until mid-summer. Awesome race, especially if it finishes in Jackson Square! Unlike most of the races around the country, New Orleans residents actually come out and support the race. Or they just keep partying from the night before...

He will probably miss the race if he waits until mid-summer to sign up. ;-)
