There is something to that drive side seat stays. Even it the angle was off it would not appear that wide. Maybe sheltering the cogs from the wind.

They did this with the P4 (though not with a marketing manager but with a female at World's TT) to soften the ground a bit.

That was a little different. That was a time zone issue they were releasing it like the next morning in the US. Not three days before.

Go look at the patents cervelo holds. They're crap. First I can't even believe how they were issued in the first place. Second, no innovation...just water bottles. Cervelo has become a one trick pony water bottle company. And this thing looks like a p4 with a TTX front end.

I would venture a guess that this is not the bike that will make its debut on the website. They have two versions correct? Leak this one and hide the more technical version.

Maybe that is not tool box but a location to run internal Di2

I understand that but still. You don't spend 1000s if not 10's of thousands of dollars in marketing development for a product to take it outside 3 days before. Even if it is only one of two models they are releasing. I don't think it will have any effect on sales, its just a very strange from a marketing perspective.

Might not change their sales but how many people copied and emailed their buddies that pic or a link to this thread and all the other threads that have been started elsewhere. Might have more eyes on the debut this way.

Depends, I don't remember if it was just some employee or who that decided to take it to the bar. The fact that it was the marketing manager who took it out is the odd part. If it was just some random employee who missed the memo that would be one thing. But having the person who possibly designed the whole marketing strategy behind it when there is supposed to be this HUGE release is strange.

That was my complete point. If you're going to release it this way then just release the thing and put it on your website so everyone can order one that wants one. In this digital age its a lot cheaper and can spread a lot faster than posting to a website. I'm sure there are going to be loads more people see it now, which will draw people to cervelos website. This method seems a lot more effective then the "delayed" release they seemed to be treading towards for this bike.

Companies do controlled leaks all the time. Out in public, no camouflage, and the marketing manager even has the P5 shirt on. Does it get any more obvious. The point is you can only see a picture and are now discussing all of the potential changes.

In my opinion it looks a lot like a Scott Plasma 3, just with different seat stays, and a bigger seat post

Exactly, it's the P5 shirt that is the giveaway.

Unlike with the iPhone, where history tells us that Jobs himself practically begged for the iPhone 4 details to not be leaked.

Either the patent office was asleep at the wheel when granting the patent (or whatever it is they do) or maybe you don't know as much as you think you do. The latter seems more likely to me.

LOLOLOL funniest thing I've heard all week. No numbers no info and you can already tell this bike has no innovation. You don't even know if this is the UCI legal one or not

Re: P5 spy shot [Grant.Reuter] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

funny thing about marketing new products to cyclists & triathletes there seems to be 2 approaches:

1 - no sneak peeks, no 'heads up' release date - just drop the bomb so the speak with a one time spectacular product launch - like what Specialized did @ Kona with the new Shiv c/w Crowie in tow.
The other, strategically leak some info out now & then - not too much, but enough to wet the appetite of those in the know, who go on to tell 2 friends and so on......
Look we are all chatting it up now and we are all eagerly anticipating Jan. 18.

Oh. by the way, that photo was probably shot in Lanzarotte this weekend.
Looks like a lot of the Cervelo brass are there with quite a few key sponsored triathletes to try the new P5.
Check out the twit's & forum at Cervelo.com.

I actually like the paint scheme. Also. Cervelo appear to be happy to release preview of their P5 but they're not showing us the new braking technology that Magura and SRAM and others have been working on. (That wouldn't go down too well).
Perhaps that's why we're seeing a standard front brake caliper.

Ding Ding Ding Ding! That is exactly my thought. Let the less technical version be leaked and in a few days show the more technical version when they said they would.

I would have loved to see a stealth black on black paint scheme - that would be bada** !!!!!
just like the bora's they have on it or the new 'beyond black' scheme from zipp.

matt nude carbon througout with gloss black decal outlines and put in a few splashes of colour (RED) in the rear wheel cutout or inside the fork blades then I have to have one.....

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
Yes, Game Changer
Minor move forward
Won't budge the needle
