Saw this last night. It's even ruder in person, all day-glo and obnoxious. There's definitely a gender-bender twist to it.

If I wore that at a race, I'd never hear the end of it. I'd have to keep those shoes for the rainy day trail runs.

At least if I was mugged CSI style, they'd find my body easy - there's no way anyone's ever gonna steal those.

They sell rather well.

For years they were unavailable in the U.S. and that, in and of itself, may have created a bit of a hub-bub about them.

Solid colors are much easier on the eyes than the Geel-Noosa's
I wear the Sky Speeds which are serious bright orange - much brighter than the photos will lead you to believe. The color is growing on me and I get a lot of "nice shoes" comments at the gym (not sarcasm comments either). Go figure ?? :) ??

Are you insinuating that any running shoes are good looking? I think the sea of white and silver asics/adidas/mizuno/brooks is drab and ugly. The only shoes that I like are the ones that are loud. I always thought Asics were pretty boring until the Noosas.

So name call all you want, but I'm easy to spot in a race (and on evening runs).

The Asics logo actually DOES glow in the dark too...

I work at a running store, and was kind of excited when these shoes came out. Until I tried them on. The sides are so thick, and the upper is essentially fish netting. I understand the thought that having the mesh upper flushes the water out, but I feel like all the water would pool around your heel and cause major blister problems. Can anyone who has these tell me otherwise? I've been a dedicated Asics wearer since I started running XC in 8th grade (um.. scratch that. I have the Brooks Green Silence right now and LOVE them) so I was really looking forward to an Asics tri shoe!

From my experience, Asics tends to hold the same size across their line (and across the years), so they run the same size as other Asics shoes. I know for me, if it is an Asics, I just get a 43, and it fits the same every time.

Not enough people with wide feet who would buy them apparently. You might give the Pearl Izumi Streak a try- about the same weight as the Noosa, and reasonably roomy.

it's not just that you can't get widths, but that lighter shoes are noticeably narrower. most asics have a wide toe box - but you start getting into the racing flats, and they're supper narrow. i don't get it.

thread resurrection...

Won an Asics gift certificate from a Matty Reed livechat (Toyota Cup related) and went looking on their site. I'm surprised this thing is listed in their "minimalist/ racing" section - it's almost 50% heavier than the others on the list. Maybe if they stripped off all the sh*t the shoe would go from 10.3 ounces to 7?

The Noosa Tri is actually based on the DS Trainer platform. Different on the upper, but the midsole/outsole should be the same as the DS Trainer (previous year's version). It's essentially a lightweight trainer, not a racing flat.

I'm running in these, and I replaced my DS Trainer 15's with them, they feel pretty much the same, but are easy to spot in transition! I have raced and trained for HIM distance in these shoes, at 200 lbs and they are holding up really well.

Re: Seared my eyeballs last night - MEN'S GEL-Noosa Tri™ 6 [Hounddog] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

I am a huge Asics fan, having worn Asics running shoes almost exclusively for over 20 years. The DS-Trainers were my favorite shoes for a long time because they are light, stable, and durable. I recently switched to the more cushiony but heavier Kayano for my everyday training shoe and I love them.

However, I'm very disappointed with the Asics GEL-Noosa Tri 7 shoes. The biggest issue I have with these so-called triathlon shoes is I just don't see that they will provide me with any advantage in T2. For example, there is nothing on the outside of the shoe to grasp onto to help me get these shoes onto my feet. Contrast this with the Zoot shoes that have handles on the tongue and heel that I think would really help me save some time in T2.

Another issue I have with the Noosa is that it is not lightweight. It weighs in at 13 oz., which is the same as my Kayanos. In comparison, DS-Trainers are 11 oz. and the Zoot ULTRA Tempo 5.0 shoes are 9.3 oz.

Finally, there is the neon color scheme. I don't like it, but I would've lived with the colors if there was any advantage to wearing this shoe in a triathlon.

I think I'll return the Noosas and get the Zoot Tempo shoes instead.

I try the Noosas on every year at Noosa when they release them. I'm an Asics wearer (2150's previously, currently on Kayano 17's) and I think the Noosa is a horrible shoe. They just don't feel comfortable at all. I'll stick with Asics but I won't ever buy the Noosa.

Well, I ended up trying on the Zoot Tempo 5.0 shoes and discovered that they are not as good as any of the Asics shoes, including the Asics Noosa Tri 7 shoes.

The biggest problem with the Zoot Tempo shoes is that, even though they have a notch on top and a handle on the heel that you can grab to help pull on the shoe, the tongueless construction makes it so that I can't squeeze my feet into the shoes quickly. The gap just isn't big enough, in my opinion, and it can't be widened. And I have narrow feet!

Another problem with the Zoot Tempo shoes is they feel like they are very cheaply constructed compared to the Asics shoes. They don't seem as durable or as comfortably form-fitting as the Asic shoes.

To save time in T2, I'm going to try using my favorite Asics shoes, but leave them loosely tied with elastic shoe laces (like Yankz). Then I'll just slide my feet into the shoes and tighten the elastic laces as quickly as I can before I head out. In other words, the only thing I'm going to change from what I've been doing so far is loosening the Yankz before the race starts and then tightening the Yankz before I leave T2.

Are there any better ideas for getting shoes on as quickly as possible in T2?

For anyone thinking about buying the Zoot Tempo 5.0 shoes, make sure to try them first! I think you'll find you won't get any benefit from them in T2.

Firstly- I'm a fan of loud shoes. the brighter, the faster they go. The Noosa's actually glow in the dark (literally, not figuratively).

I run in the DS Trainers. the New Noosa 7's have the same undercarraige as the DS Trainer 16's. I find them soft and slipper like, with a good ground feel yet some nice cushion. Also a little stability (which I need). I really enjoy putting them on. I use them for my mid distance trainers and some long runs 15-19mi. Over that distance right now I'll grab something a little sturdier... but that's me. I'm a flat-footed pronator who needs support. I wouldn't say that they're a high mileage shoe. Probably good for 350mi rather than 500 for total life. But- that's what you get for their soft cushy ride.

i've never run in the Zoots. (I'd love to try a pair of Tempo's tho')

The Noosa 7's are listed at 10.6 oz. not heavy, but I like to go lighter for races. My race shoes are Mizuno Wave Elixers at 9.5oz (firmer, but more support), or Brooks Racer STs at 8.6oz (cushier, less support but lighter). So far- they're my best "support to weight ratio" shoes.
