this may be a riposte. too bad if it is!

oh hell yes: shifting while out of the saddle with hands on pursuit bars.

That looks nice and tiddy - any more info on that?

Nice.
I don't know how it works but I want it, or at least I want to be able to shift from both spots, esp the base bar horns while standing as you say.
Are there electric and non-elec set ups out there to have shifting from the aeros and the base bar?

Details please.

Nice, though I'm not all that hot about the battery pack.

now that is a true re-design of TT shifters.

hat's off to the designers.

however, this could also be done with a mechanical shifting system.

An overlooked element of bike fit: bicycle crank length.

  Yes...

Electronic shifters are lighter... now they'll have to add weight to keep the bikes at 14.5 lbs.

they should put the battery pack in an aero shape behind the stem or under the top tube or something. Looks cool though!

Shimano: pay me if you use this idea.

Have an option for charging through cranks. You could switch in on during training/warmup to recharge the batteries if you are getting low.

this is currently being re-engineered. one place, is the rear of the bar end, another option, down the seat post, to act as a weight for under weight bikes.

This is a great idea, hopefully they can even put the batteries in the aero bars, but just realize at least at first this is going to be really, really, heavy. You might have a all carbon bike with a battery which weighs half as much as the rest of the bike, and just wait until you are in an Ironman and your battery goes dead. If developed well this would be an awesome integration of "fly-by-wire" technology in bikes.

that battery will go down. think CR123 battery, stack a couple together, so about as high as a stack of 4 quarters. and half the diameter,

Currently there are about 5 options that can be implemented, to bring the weight down to....unbelievable.

I'd believe it! As an electrical engineer, I'm happy to finally see something like this on a bike. Hopefully this will be well implemented yet uncomplicated, and not turn into some kind of maintenance nightmare...

Battery technology has always been what holds back development of products like this... you're saying that in one year they're going to reduce the battery size tenfold??

guestamites are 55-60% reduction on release. V2 = 10 fold

Wow... that's unheard of! They should look for jobs in the auto industry because they've apparently solved the biggest impediment to hybrid and electric vehicles: battery size.

While I like the idea of shifters in the pursuit position, I still don't think I'd like the idea of shifting while our of the saddle.

Re: sweet mother - shifting while out of the saddle [IronDad] [In reply to] Can't Post

You're assuming that the current battery is as small as they can make it with todays tech. With the min weight on TdF bikes being so easy to meet there isn't any reason to send a whole lot of time a a light battery for the prototype parts. For the final release it will ahve to be reasonable.

Also keep in mind that cable break (rarely) and most mis shifts and poor shifts are due to lack of cable maintenance so electic shifting does have some possible advantages.
