pool is closed for 10 days, what can I do
Can't Post
I'm less than 4 weeks out from my A race for the year and the next couple of weeks were supposed to be big swim training weeks for me. My pool is closed for 10 days and there isn't another one close by that I can get to. Are there any exercises that I can do to keep some kind of fitness until I can get back in.
thanks in advance.
Barry

If there is a Bally's Fitness close by, you can go on-line, sign up for a two week guest pass. It does not cost anything and all you have to tolerate is a 5-10 minute "tour" of the Bally's and sign a waiver release form.

Has anyone tried those cords that attach to the pool and then around your body, kinda like a treadmill for swimming?
The pool I use is closed for a little while also, but I have a pool at my house and was wondering if anyone had tried and liked them.
Thanks

Not a bad idea, thanks. I also have the option of open water swimming in Lake Erie. And before you all go "ewww", it's actually not that bad. I've already swam and raced in it a couple times this year. Plus it's not as warm as the tepid YMCA pool.

yes but you will get tired/sore very fast compared to regular swimming, so i'd keep it to a minimum. definitely open water if you can

Yeah, we call 'em "tethers." Attach to lane lines and swim in place. I haven't used them, but my roommate - a 2:09 200 flyer - sprained her ankle this year and couldn't do flip turns. She did a lot of tether swimming. I never got a chance to try it, but thought it looked cool. She says it's dull :-)
I think this is just the time of year for pool closings: everything around here is closed too, cleaning and getting ready for HS season.

What should you do??? Um, how 'bout celebrate!!? ;-)
As bad as that sucks, you could see this message at your pool like I just did: "The YMCA will be sharing our pool for the next week while their pool is under maintenance". More crowds!

What the heck is going on? My pool is closed too. Never mind the question about the ages of the olympic gymnasts, I think there's a more serious conspiracy going on right in this country with late August pool closings!

I have one and I have used it in small motel pools. Pretty poor substitute for real swimming. As you are not moving in the water more than a few inches, it ignores streamlining or minimizing resistance. It does give you some sense of dead-spots in your stroke as you can feel the cord pulling you back. I'm not sure that using it is really much more helpful than dry-land stretch cords. Other than getting wet.
