las vegas run/bike? Can't Post

My wife and I are going to be in Las Vegas later this week for a "business" trip. Any suggestions for a long run 10-14 miles? I was thinking about taking her on an easy mountain bike ride or hike in Red Rock? Any suggestions?

I was in Las Vegas in March and just ran up and down the strip in the morning. I was amazed at how many other runners there were out early in the day (and how many people were still in the casinos at 6:30am drinking and gambling as I went out the door to start my run).

Red Rocks is great for both running and riding. You will need a car to get there. At this time of the year it's likley getting hot there as the day goes on so early morning is best. I think the loop road in the park is about 10 miles around. So it's a good 10 mile sloop to run or do a few times on the bike. Traffic is light and the scenery is amazing.

Failing that, as Allan has said, I don't mind running the Strip early in the morning. It's kinda interesting to run down to the far end of the Strip to Circus Circus and beyond to see the difference between the Old and the New Las Vegas. Although there has been so much construction and changes over the past few years it's hard to tell the difference any more.

Send me a personal message with the details about what kind of run you are looking for and I'll map you out a route. If it's convenient, I'll even drop off some water at specified locations (you'll need it this time of year). If you're looking for a challenge, the Red Rock loop road is one of the best around, with enough scenery to keep your mind off the pain.

Blue Diamond (just west of Red Rock) is probably your best bet for mtn. biking of all abilities.

Hiking in Red Rock, hmm, so many choices exist. Pine Creek Canyon is an excellent, but popular option. Head out very early in the morning, and you're likely to still get a glimpse of some big horn sheep this time of year in that area. If you don't see sheep, you'll still see plenty of climbers if you keep your eyes open.

I ran several times out at Redrock my last time out there. There is a running store and I think the name is Red Rock Running company...might need to google it. The dude there was really helpful in putting me on some great trails.

I have been to Vegas a couple of times and have seen the strip. I did the century ride there about 4-5 years ago which was pretty cool. That is where I got a look at Red Rock and the lake by Hoover Dam. I think the Red Rock loop road sound pretty cool. I love a good run in a different environment. We do not have mountains/canyons in Mississippi.

Echo cycling Red Rock to Blue Diamond and back. Got it from Swim, Bike, Run LV. Did it in March. Bring your climbing legs.
