Very very unsafe swim conditions....Utah Lake is very shallow and produces white caps anytime it's windy. I believe one of those years, someone did drown. Very unfortunate, as the Orem/Provo is area is real nice.

Double whammy of bad wind conditions for two years in a row. Not sure I agree that Utah County would be a "nice" place for a race of that distance. It is pretty uninteresting by most standards.

I don't understand why organizers and promoters can't figure a way to utilize the half dozen or so big lakes and reservoirs in northern Utah for an Iron distance venue.

I am a 'survivor' of the ill fated IM Utah 02 event. Perfect conditions until race day. The swim was cancelled shortly after the gun went off. Pros were swimming off course b/c bouys were blowing way--it was an ugly scene to say the least. After everyone was fished out of the lake (or swam back to shore) and accounted for we competed a shortened bike/run.

Any other survivors out there?
