Anyone know whether the 2015 ITU AG World Champs (Chicago) is likely to be wetsuit legal?

Wanted to revive this, as I looked on a few different temperature maps and it is showing 72 - 73dg F. Wetsuit cut off is 71.6F/22C.
Is this temp likely to drop in the next month? Are they even accurate?
Not worried either way, just curious.

If it's any help, Milwaukee was cold as hell for this Floridian. :)

I don't think it will get to the upper level for the 1500 meters+, 76.1 degrees, for AG athletes but might for the sprint, 71.6 degrees. But I think it think the pros were non wetsuit last year but that race was also in late June and not mid September. It will hover at the 70 degree mark but also could be low 60s. It really depends on the wind direction and where they take the temperature.

It really depends on the wind direction and where they take the temperature.it says the 71.6 cutoff is for anything up to 1500m. 76.1 is for 1501+, so by those rules, olympic and sprint would both have a cutoff of 71.6.
i didn't realize it was different for ITU age group competition than for USAT stuff (i know it's different for the pros), so i'm glad i looked at this thread. that said...milwaukee was mid-60s for both races.

you can be assured: it will be wetsuit swim. if anything, get ready to have less than summery conditions. for Chicago, 3rd week of September is already well into the fall.
good luck in your prep and make sure you stop by the Kiwami booth.

+1 on this. It would take a completely freak day for it not to be a wetsuit swim... plus all the RD would have to do is put the thermometer and extra 6" down for the temperature to drop 3 degrees. When the water does get sort of warm in Lake Michigan the thermoclines are really really prevalent. I've been swimming where the surface temperature is a comfy 73 but just a few feet down it's in the mid 60s... and sometimes if it's windy after a few still days you can actually feel the water mix as you're swimming (assuming you're not wearing a wetsuit)

sorry no lifetime expo for kiwami this year; we'll be at IM Wisconsin, ITU Worlds and Kona.
if you need to see us before all this, you can always stop by our office in lake forest; we'd be very happy to meet with you.

Thanks, Andre. I might take you up on that. I saw y'all's stuff for the first time a few years ago in Chicago and really liked it. I don't get to see your stuff too often so curious to see what's new.
