Climbing the highest peak in Antarctica
My son and I recently ventured down to the Big Ice to climb the Vinson Massif--one of the seven summits and the highest peak in Antarctica. You can find a full write-up with many pictures here:

What did it cost for the two of you? Like $25,000?

I just skimmed through this, absolutely amazing. The landscapes are almost from another planet (and perhaps just as hostile), I can't imagine being there!

Yes, the views are extraordinary--you simply can't see them anywhere else on this planet.....I'd love to go back!

Randy,

You just might be the most interesting man on Slowtwitch. I always enjoy reading about what you are up to. Keep doing cool stuff and taking the time to let us read about it.

Jason

Thanks Jason--that's very high praise indeed! I'm not sure I deserve it but I'm pleased that you enjoyed the read--Jordan Rapp told me it was 4 times too long (which might be understated) so congrats on the perseverance!

Nice!!
I envy you,
Back in 1990 I was a mechanic on the Kenn Borek Air twin otters, but didn't have enough time to do the mountaineering stuff.
Your story and pix bring back memories, thanks

That was a great lunchtime read, thanks for posting. Amazing trip and photos, Anders is one lucky kid. I hope you heal up and don't have to give up the things you love.

Amazing trip.

Pretty awesome you got to enjoy this (amongst other adventures) with your son. I'd imagine that makes it even more satisfying. I enjoy doing and accomplishing things with my father (albeit, not on this scale). The accomplishment is certainly grand, but the journey and the company you keep seems to be the peak (pun somewhat intended).

Thanks for sharing!

Hey Marky V! You sure did. I think he had to stop due to a nagging knee thing, which he battles from time to time. I think I also met you at a race....maybe IM Canada?

Anyways, I know Anders really enjoyed working with you!

thanks! appreciate the good words. Yeah, it was injury that was separation. I recall the bike was starting to really hum but the run always difficult. Enjoyed working with him! What's the knee thing exactly?

IMC? i've been at 08 09 10 11 in Penticton and 13 in Whistler.

MarkyV--yeah, it was Penticton '08 that I talked with you at the award ceremony--this was around the time you had been working with Anders. No one has adequately explained his knee thing. However, he received some super slo-mo gait analysis and modified it a bit and can handle up to 40 mpw now reasonably well. How limiting factor now is his job....

Hey Bill--I look forward to racing with you again as well but it will have to wait until 2016 most likely. I have at least one and perhaps two elbow surgeries to get through and I'm going to use the balance of 2015 to rebuild my base. I hope to be ready to race a sprint or two in the fall and perhaps do a longer distance Aquabike or even a multi-day bike race. I'm going to be a bit conservative, especially with running, to try to nurse my back issues along....
