Hitch bike rack with spare tire
I have a 2005 Honda CRV with the spare tire mounted to the back of the car. Does anyone have any experience with using a platform hitch rack like the Thule Doubletrack 2?

I have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I don't use a tray rack, but I have to use a hitch extension with my Thule to get it out past the spare.

I had just went with the yakima spare tire rack on my 04 crv. If you would like to haul more than 2 bikes it would be a problem though.
They sell the hitch extenders for both 1.25 inch and 2 inch recievers at tractor supply or similar stores for relatively cheap that will get you out past the spare tire.

You might want to use something like this: http://www.etrailer.com/...admaster/RM-061.html
whenever you use a hitch mounted rack - especially if you use an extension.
It even locks down (wiggle free) a hitch mounted motor scooter rack on my motorhome.

Hey TD, thanks for the link. What is that lock do? Prevent theft?

While it would deter theft some, its main purpose is to keep the carrier from moving around. I have a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier on my motor home. Without the lock, it wiggles around a lot. The lock prevents anything in the receiver from moving at all. If you use a hitch extension (say to clear a spare tire) with your bike carrier, the carrier will move around a lot. With a lock on both the extension and the bike carrier, nothing moves. Much more secure...

I have the same, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the Thule 916XTR. I used this one on the extender to hitch. It really reduces the sway/rattle of the rack - especially when there are four MTB on it.

I have the same thing on my '07 RAV4. I agree, only having two bikes can be a dealbreaker for some, but otherwise it is an awesome rack. It feels like it's ver solidly attached to the car. and having only two bikes on there is kind of nice actually because they are spaced out farther and won't touch each other.
