I did a hilly 45k bike portion of a triathlon in the pouring rain with Magura rim brakes, appropriate brake pads, and firecrest wheels, and braked quite successfully and confidently multiple times. I believe my peak speed in a left hand bend on a downhill was about 48mph.

I assume magura brakes work with aluminum rims?

Of course. They are just calipers. Can put whatever pads you want in em.
