True Treadmills?
I'm finding it's a lot harder to get out for runs will a little guy at home and winter approaching. I've been able to run with my 18 month old in our Chariot, but temps are approaching freezing and there's also a lot less daylight after work these days. So.....I'm considering getting a treadmill, and am looking at True models - the PS800 in particular. I can get either the PS100, PS300 or PS800 for 20% off on Black Friday. Anyone have experience on these treadmills? Reviews online are favorable, but any first hand experience would probably seal the deal.

Thanks!

I got the PS300 about 10 months ago. I love it. It's very sturdy and the belt was the perfect width for me. I think I paid around $3,000 including tax.

I have a ps800. The treadmill is good and well-built overall. Though on the ps800, the firmness adjustment doesn't make a lot of difference to the firmness at either extreme. I would still buy a True, but I would go for a cheaper model without the firmness adjustment.

We've had our True HR450 going on 17 years now and it still going strong. My wife and both use it so it has seen a lot of use and abuse. Other than lubricating the run belt it's been little to no maintenance.

I have an old True (550?) that my Dad handed down to me approximately 8 years ago and it's still going strong. My guess is that it's 12-15 years old and for most of it's life I was a heavier guy. My wife and I both use it and it's never had a service call. It's been moved multiple times, dropped while moving, etc and it just keeps going... it's a tank.

Have the True 300 with the orthopedic belt. Had it for 4 years now with no incident. Not a lot of variety on the programs, but it can put out 12mph and still runs like the day we got it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another (though this one shows no signs of wearing out).

BTW, I do 75% of my run training indoors, so between my wife and my running, this thing probably has close to 7000 on it and is still going strong.

I run on Woodway's at the gym, but you're talking at least 3x what my budget is. I agree they are the best, but not feasible on the income of a teacher!

True is one of my favorites. Pretty bomb proof.

I have a CS 900…… this is the commercial version which has a 5HP motor and requires a 20 amp breaker, up to 24 KPH and a range of -3% to plus 18%.

Likely you won't be buying this, I have been 99% happy with the model except in certain situations the motor over heats (dealing with it now)….. you get an E2 error.

Only in the summer at above 25C temps. I really like the construction, true builds rollers and systems for the news print industry…..I check accuracy also every 4-6 weeks (just with my bike) and it is usually within 2 %

The only other issue is that they are very big and very heavy……If you are looking to get this thing down a flight of stairs then be cautious (they often come pre-built)

True 500 HRC owner here. My wife and I have run it into the ground and it still rolls like day 1. We lube the deck and had the roller replaced under warranty once with no fanfare.

Not the models you are looking at but I suspect the True quality persists. I wish all my equipment was so reliable.

We've had the PS800 for over 4 years. We love the control panel. It is easy to use and shows the 400m track. We also like the long safety arms.
There is one issue that cropped up about 2 years ago and again a few months ago. After about an hour or running it stops rather quickly and "speed stall" shows on the screen.
After calls to True and searches online, we still have not figured this out, but it comes and goes. We tried lubing the belt and getting under the cover to clean the speed sensor.
In sum, we think it's a nice piece of equipment and would likely buy another True.
Hope this helps. (from fellow teachers)

I have had the PS100 for four years now and still solid as day one. I ran on both the PS300 and PS100 and preferred the non-orthopedic belt on the PS100.

I was wondering about this. I haven't been able to run on one of the True TM's and wasn't sure if the orthopedic belt was actually needed. Other than some ITBS this season, I've been injury free over the past four years. Not sure the upgraded belt on the PS300 and the adjustable firmness on the PS800 would be necessary. I just want a reliable TM that will last for a long time.

That is a lot of $$$ so try to demo the models you are looking at. I had no experience with treadmill running before as all my runs were outdoors. I ran about 10' on both the PS100 and PS300 and expected to prefer the orthopedic belt on the PS300 as it was an upgrade and supposed to be so good. For me, less cushioning on the PS100 felt closer to outdoor surfaces and just "right".

I've had a True for about eight years and it is still going strong. Minor adjustments to the belt tension and that's it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Great value IMHO. Good luck with your purchase.

Decided to go with a PS100 - being delivered on 12/13, about in time for the white stuff and ice to show up here in New England. Still will try to run outside when conditions permit it, but will enjoy having to not go to the gym when it's nasty out.

PS800 5 years now, seems pretty bomb proof, very sturdy (good luck moving it up/down stairs though, it's heavy!), a very nice treadmill.
