Hey Boulder Locals who are familiar with the riding the bike course...

I'm coming from the Northeast, Syracuse...What do you recommend?

Cassette: 12-25 or 11-28?
Disk or Disc: Yes or No?

Thanks
Zach

It's a "disc" not a "disk" and yes. Heck yes, you should use one.

Good luck man... Hope you have a great race and a great time in Boulder.

I am not a local, coming from Madison WI, but I will be there with a 12-25 and a disc cover. Same setup I ride at IMWI. I rode parts of the course back in May. Cassette wise not an issue. Wind can be an issue the last part of the bike but should be mostly straight head wind.

Truly not trying to be a ST dick here... But, I really do think that they are technically called a Disc. I've wondered this for a while and been corrected before. Anyone else care to inform or help out?

That and the fact that my parents have my kid on vacation still with them.

I would always use a climbing cassette for ironman pace. Not many people are going to max out their gears at ironman pace...

I ride these roads all the time, it's all rollers. I always ride an 11/28.

It would have to be a freakish wind event to not ride a disc, which is pretty unlikely this time of year.

I have ridden the full course 4 times in training. 12-25 should be good for most, though I'm older so I need some extra teeth (on the cassette). I'm on the fence in terms of using my disc or my 808. There is some elevation gain between 75-108. There could be some wind out there as well. I'm local so I will bring both and decide based on late weather. If the winds are not projected to be hairy, I will probably do the disc. If there's going to be a threat of wind, I will use the 808s.

...that don't clear anything up :)

Though Zipp, HED FLO all call it a disc.

I might play some tennis after the race while in Boulder. For altitude do I need a different tension on the strings of my racket ... or is it racquet? Screw it, I'm going rafting.

No... In all seriousness on this one. It's not "rafting" in Boulder, it's refered to as "tubing."

And that would be a damn fine idea after the race indeed.

Okay - I am done here. Everyone have a great time and an awesome race here. I hope that Boulder treats you well.

Bestbikesplit! Handy for this, but I'd go 1mph lower for the lower speed it estimates...based on my experience.

Looks like 11-25 is plenty for 99% of the ride.... however, I'd use a 11-28 because I see one climb that kicks at the end and would have me down to 11mph, even at 4w/kg.

The descents look long enough that the 11 might be useful to lay down some watts at higher speeds pr keep RPM low in those situations to save your hip flexors for the run.
