? about Tri Spokes Can't Post

A friend of mine has a pair of Tri Spoke (actual brand name) wheels. He has put on some weight and now is afraid to ride them because he thinks they may not be strong enough. He weighs 220#. Anyone know anything about these brand wheels and their strength? They are just like new, race day wheels only. Thanks for any help.

Aloha,

Larry

LarryM96815,

I can't comment on other brands of tri-spoke wheels, but the Hed 3 Tri Spoke wheels are about as bomb proof as one can get! People even use them on tandems. They make give a harsher ride because they are so stiff, but 220# is nothing for Hed 3 Tri Spoke wheels.

I happen to own a pair myself and use them for time trialing primarily.

If these are the original Tri-Spokes then I would not ride them at any weight. The wheels have had a incredible failure rate and most were pulled off the market a long time ago.

I've got a set hanging in my garage next to my 1984 neon green Nishiki road bike and Bud Light series banner.

Best of Luck.

I've had a pair for a long time, but I have ridden them seldom. One of them developed a crack when I went down in a pile of riders this summer. I didn't notice it right away, I had no problem riding home on it. They might be usable for an event here or there, but I would check them carefully.
