Willier. The Transition has already had enough unfounded hate on this forum so bring the Willier so Tom D and the Slowtwitch Wind Tunnel can make stupid comments about how unaero it is based purely on nothing. Plus it's a sexy bike.

Willier
Gerolsteiner would rather pay for their TT bikes and rebadge them than ride Transitions. (that may or may not be true) Plus I am not a fan of Specialized dealers I think they overhype their products. How may times have you been told that Roval Star wheels were faster than 808's Hed 3s etc

Until I saw numbers on the Willier I'd go Transition, and depending upon the numbers I might still go transition.
Tell you what, buy both and I'll pay you $.25 on the dollar for the one you don't like.

I'm thinking about making my first new tri bike purchase in many years. I still have my old school Kestrel KM 40 with the little wheels. My thinking right now is there is no point in getting another bike unless it's going to be a definite step up in speed and stuff. I'm liking the Wilier because of the notion that my man John Cobb supposedly did the design. I especially like the the shape of the down tube; the way it flairs forward toward the front wheel. John wrote somewhere it helped aerodynamics enough that "it was worth doing." Plus it would be cool having a bike that is a little different.
The frame is $4499 if you can find one.

Specialized Comps - complete bikes are $3000 and I can get one locally. Also I've been spotting them on Ebay for a nice $500-$1000 used discount.
So that's a big difference in price.

Transtion Pro with SRAM and Mavic Cosmic Carbon is a comparative steal at 5500, and you get to support a good old USA company. (did I mention Peter Reid liked it?)

Roval Star wheels are faster. It is just that Specialized does not need market their wheels with wind tunnel date, because they make so much money on all the other products.
I have ridden, HED 3's, Zipp, Mavic and my Roval Star Carbon tubular are the fastest set of wheels I have been on.

Sir Cobbs personal bike is the Willier with all the Blackwell goodies. I get a weird feeling that if a guy who lives in a wind tunnel rides it it works. Just do it and make me jealous.

It is simple. Now stay with me. Find a bike. Put the Roval wheels on the bike and go faster than you have ever gone before.
No wind tunnel data, which is meaningless in the real world and at age grouper speeds with the bike moving around and a dozen other variables. Wind tunnel data is purely a marketing tool to get consumers who are not able to think for themselves to buy the products and help stores sell the products.

Get the Wilier, Its a damned sexy bike.
and quit with the "what's faster". Every time I pass a bike shop, ALL The bikes are moving at the same speed:
Zero
kph.
They don't move until you plant your ass on one and GO. so pick the one you like and ride the hell out of it!

Well Geoff from Indy,
You made me learn something today. I read your post and scoffed in such a grandiose manner that I'm still wiping spittle off my screen. I assumed that Wilier was a Euro road machine that was all style and no substance and by that I mean it was gonna be shallow in the seat angle and long in the top tube - and there, therefore there was no choice to be made; you should simply go with the true tri bike - the Specialized. I took a sec to find Wilier on the web
http://www.wilier-usa.com/...ikes&bike=centoc
and was shocked thrilled and relieved that they make 3 bikes: S, M, L w/ seat angles of 76.5, 77 and 78 degrees respectively. The top tubes on them are 51.5, 54.1, 57.5 (again respectively).
Your choice is a tough one.
Thanks for the revelation.

Stupid question for you...have you ridden either? I have a 2008 Transition Expert which I love. But if you haven't tested either then who cares what ST'ers think, get out there and see what feels better. If, on the other hand you've ridden both and you're completely stuck between the 2 (I was there with a Transition & E-112 not to long ago), my vote is on the Transition. Then again, I've never ridden a Willier.
Good luck

Star hubs are very fast wheels. My best races have been on those things. I raced on them for a year, overall between my bike splits and crits, I was faster on them than other wheels before and during my time with them. My first set was from working at a Specialized Concept Store. I bought into the hype and then while using the deep dish tubies...I sold my Zipp 404s and 808 rear.
Since I bought another set and wound up upgrading to ceramic bearings and Zipp Tangente tubies...those wheels are amazing.
Though if you look on the Classifieds I am selling them...painfully.
I have to love what I sell and sell what I ride. Looking for that next wheel love.

Sure...but, I'm assuming you aren't talking about me, right? ;-)
BTW, with the small amount those 2 were separated in that test, I would consider them to be basically "tied"...

Yeah, but I don't think most people around here would consider it a 'tie" if the p3c tested slightly faster ;-)
