Why isn't the Half Ironman tri distance an Olympic Event? Can't Post

Swimming, track & field, rowing, and other sports have multiple events with different distances. Triathlon only has the Olympic distance. Why can't they add the Half Ironman distance as an Olympic event? Or even the Iron 140.6 distance as an Olympic event?

In asking this question, the fact that there is the "Olympic distance" in triathlon, might be answering the question in itself.

i'd rather see sprint distance in the olympics - better for TV too
