Why is an Olympic Distance Triathlon Called Olympic Distance Can't Post
The distance has been around a lot longer than the race has been part of the Olympics. Just curious as to why it is called Olympic distance. I haven't been in triathlon long enough to know if it was called Olympic distance (even though it was the same distance) before it became part of the Olympics. If it wasn't, what was it called back then? And if it was, then why Olympic?

if i am not mistaken it was called "international" distance before and they changed it to gain recognition from the IOC to be included in the olympics.
