"He got a trial, he took his lumps, he is very sorry - and he expressed his sorrow on this very forum 8 years ago.
He was not a chronic predator - there was only one girl among the many, many girls he coached.
And the freakiness factor is lessoned given that in some states, she is above the age of consent (15)."

Wow, nice spin.
Sounds like you're a very forgiving person depending on the transgression. At least he didn't come here asking for votes or something really horrible like that.

That was great. I was feeling a little down at the moment but when I read your post, my face lit up like Rudolphs nose and I laughed for about a minute straight.
Thanks.

I think he is open for agers thru teamtbb website, even though for MOP I will have to agree with the previous post and name Marc Becker as a great online coach too.

$1000 a month.
I asked if there was a discount for paying 12 months at once, up front. If it's a 50% discount, I'm in.

Great question , with some interesting answers and viewpoints thus far.
I have used 2 coaches of vastly different training philosophy's.
The first coach provided a package that required a lot of resarch and understanding, prior to executing a workout. I found that, at that particular stage of my triathlon career, I required substantially more correspondence and answer's to my questions, than I received.
The package worked for me and the goal of finishing my first IM was accomplished. For me , I was looking more for an advisor and friend who would lay it all out there for me ,whilst simeultaneously kicking me in the ass when I was getting distracted, or not moving efficiently towards our goal.
I will not list this coaches name , for the simple fact that I believe it would come across as negative , which would be unintentional and an inaccurate portrayal of his service. I think it comes down to a specific match and like any relationship , sometimes does not connect.
I did a lot of research for 6 months and eventually kept coming back to Scott Molina. I was apprehensive emailing him and expecting somebody of his expertise and reputation , taking a 38-39 year old 12.30 IM finisher under his guidance.
I emailed him and received a response within a couple of hours. As any coach would , Scott had a detailed questionairre for his athletes to fill in , explaining their goals , life experiences , athletic abilities ( or non , in my case ) and generally what I was looking for.
To fast forward , I have completed 2 IM's under Scott's guidance and I have ALWAYS known , that I did everything possible in training ,to be at my best. I was always at peace with myself at the starting line and the days prior, knowing that I had done the work.
I will add that , I am only coached by Scott in the 3 months prior to my "A" races. Scott's training is formulated exactly to the individual and planned in blocks of weeks ( or days ) ahead , based on the results and feedback of the most recently executed sessions. He also answers his emails daily , rarely longer than 6 hours later. Listing his training as a "program" per se, would be inaccurate as all workouts are individually designed.
Not only do I look at him as a coach and mentor , but as a friend who understands exactly where I am coming from and where I want to go , under the parameters I have to train.
I think ,to answer the original poster's question ,finding a coach that works for you , is a delicate process. I would suggest combining a list , such as the ones listed in this thread and carefully scrutinizing each coach , taking into account the many points that you find important, in what exactly you are looking for.
I think athletes all require and want a coach ,that tells them what to do each day. The differences are that some require different levels of feedback and levels of knowledge than others.

There is no best coach. One coach will not work for everybody, there are too many factors, personality, athletes personal abilities, coaches philosophy etc.
The best coach will be the best coach for you. That said, the best tri coach will be one who has a wide range of knowledge without being overly commited to one philosophy. It seems tri coaches tend to be very philosophy specific and that will never work well for the majority.
Each athlete is an idividual and must be approached as such.

Dick Holloway,
This is the third time you've been called out on this. If you are going to flame a person by name, you can at least have the courage to give an explanation. Surely you don't really know Mitch. Anyone that does know him -- or better yet has been coached by him -- understands that he's a class act and a really good person. He would never personally go after anyone on this forum, or in any other context.

Wow, talk about throwing someone under the bus. What leads you to this conclusion? As I recall, Mitch, Rich Strauss, KP, and quite a few other coaches all participated openly about coaching on Gordo's old forum. There was a lot of shared knowledge there in the beginning for all of them.
