Where's the love for LVL? Can't Post

After a great race last year and better fitness this year(from what I can gather interpreted from his blog), why is LVL so under the radar this year? Anyone heard anything about him on the big isle? It would be great to see him wrap it up mixing it up with Macca and the likes.

Well, I bet the top dogs don't have him out of sight. If I'm not mistaken he held his own back in the summer with Marino at the Antwerp 70.3 and raced a fairly strong short course race against Beke and others just a month or so ago. I've got a feeling he may surprise some folks, unless somethings gone wrong in the past few weeks.

Now I think Luc is quite a fine athlete, and a fine looking young lad, but love might not be my choice of words. That said, I wager he will be one of the primary protagonists this weekend...

Best of luck to him and everyone in Kona. I'm looking forward to a fine race. Very exciting.

He had one of the great IMH races of all time back in '96, time and performance-wise. If anybody can jump up and pull a shocker, it'd be him. I wish him all the luck in the world.

Luc is one of my all time favorites and I follow his accomplishments as closely as I can. He is an incredibly gifted athlete -- even after battling more than his fair-share of injuries.

More than that, however, is what an incredible sportsman he seems to be! Watch the NBC Ironman broadcasts of Luc in his prime -- 1996, 98, 99 -- and you'll see him giving a "thumbs-up" or a pat on the back to his competitors. It didn't seem to matter if he was leading or they were leading, he was so positive toward his fellow racers.

I hope he has one heck of a race!

Re: Where's the love for LVL? [trihiti] [In reply to] Can't Post

In a recent interview on WTV (Belgian local station) he told that he wouldn't participate in Kona if the results of HIM Antwerp and the Zwintriathlon (local Oly that Rutger Beke won) were disappointing and that he only would start for a top 10 place.

In Antwerp he pushed Marino Vanhoennacker to his limits during the bike leg and if LVL didn't mess up in T2 it would have been a matter of seconds at the finish. In the Zwintriathlon he proved to have the necessary speed to compete at the highest level.

According to Paul vdB (his coach) LVL is more than ever ready to race, he wants to be on that podium for the last time.
Also all his sponsor deals end on the 1st November so he wants to prove he's still one of the world greatest triathletes.

Although a top 10 will be very difficult - looking at the competition - he has tons of experience to push the rest to their limits.

In Belgium, everybody is really looking forward to this race. We have 5 guys that are racing for a place on the podium :

1. Marino Vanhoennacker
2. Rutger Beke
3. Luc Van Lierde
4. Bert Jammaer
5. Frederik van Lierde

Let's wait and see...
