Whats New....Brooks Spring 2009 Can't Post

What’s new…Brooks Spring 2009

In staying “green” Brooks will be updating all “new” models to their BioMoGo midsoles which is touted to break down at a much quicker rate in landfills then standard midsoles. There is a non-toxic additive to the new material which encourages anaerobic microbes to begin breaking down the material once it is in an active enclosed landfill. With BioMoGo the midsoles should breakdown in approx. 20 years (50 times faster than standard midsoles. Additionally all new models will be getting laces made from 100% recycled materials. * The Summon will not have a BioMoGo midsole (Defyance 2, Glycerin 7, Infiniti 2, Adrenaline 9, Cascadia 4, Addiction 8 (even at the color update!) On the front page of the Brooks web site, runners can enter “The Green Room” to learn more information about the space and waste savings of BioMoGo.

NEUTRAL

Glycerin 7 1/1/09 price increase to $125, medium widths only, but 2 color options from the start. Will have a softer, more resilient blown rubber outsole with new outsole design Provides better release and deflection at impact by the new strike zone design. Should be plenty cushy yet still an overall stable shoe. *The forefoot MoGo configuration has changed slightly, with a separate, slightly softer piece of foam sandwiching into the forefoot.

Ghost color update 1/1/09 mens green womens red

Dyad no changes

Defyance 2 available 12/01/08 price increase to $100 will have 3 widths available narrow, mediums and wides for both genders. Much milder color from original which turned some people away from what is a good shoe. Heel area was decoupled further to improve heel strike cushion and release. Increased flex grooves in forefoot. Reduced met window sizes in upper to achieve a closer fit.
Summon 12/01/08 a new entry level neutral shoe at a $90 price point. Full length MoGo (not biomogo) midsole. Not a bad looking shoe but I think is intended for more big box stores vs running specialty

GUIDANCE

Infiniti 2 2/01/2009 Price increase to $125 Given the success of the Infiniti I don’t think they wanted to change a lot in the new model. They added cushioning around the heel collar, and changed the midfoot wrap to a softer, more pliable material. Should resolve some of the negative feedback on the vamp area by removing some overlays and using thinner backing materials in key location

Axiom 3 no changes

Switch 2 01/01/09 Msrp $85 moves from single to double piece DRB Accel in midfoot makes the whole shoe more flexible. Increased lateral forefoot flex grooves promotes more lateral release.

SUPPORT

Trance 8 color updates 01/01/09

Adrenaline GTS 9 01/01/09 Price increase to $105. 4 widths for men and womens with narrow through Xwide. 2 colors for men and womens from the start, but only 1 color in the widths. New configuration to heel strike area to both control motion at impact and create smoother, softer transition into midstance. New saddle configuration to maintain midfoot wrap, but this time with less materials. Goal as usual to provide supportive yet comfortable feel. No big changes to overall fit/performance. “If it aint broke don’t fix it”

MOTION CONTROL

Beast/Ariel no changes

Addiction 8 color updates 05/01/09

TRAIL

Cascadia 4 02/01/09 new Assymetrical lacing allows broader number of foot types it will fit well. Improved midfoot wrap. Great colors, this shoe looks like it will continue to do very well. Has been our best selling neutral trail shoe over last couple years. *Fun Fact: Sockliner features a map of the Western States 100 mile course with Scott Jurek’s record (Brooks collaborates closely with him during the design/development of this shoe)

RACING

T6 new upper 2/01/09 – seamless feel on the inside, to prevent barefeet rubbing on stich lines.

Racer ST 4 new upper 2/01/09 update of one of my favorite race shoes, not a lot of change though. I hear there is a message inside the tongue of the shoe…..

Images will be following in a seperate post but not until as late as October, sorry

Re: Whats New....Brooks Spring 2009 [JamieDPT] [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the update. I am a loyal wearer of the Adrenaline 8 and considering stocking up on a few pair as I can't resolve this statement:

Adrenaline GTS 9 01/01/09 New configuration to heel strike area to both control motion at impact and create smoother, softer transition into midstance. New saddle configuration to maintain midfoot wrap, but this time with less materials.

With this one:

No big changes to overall fit/performance. “If it aint broke don’t fix it”

It sounds a lot different to me and has me wondering if I should stock up on 8's.

they are making changes to some materials but overall I dont think the shoe will be changed dramatically in function. It should fit and function very similar to the 8 from what I have been told. If the 8 is really working well for you though, I might suggest waiting until areound January 1 and when the 9 becomes available search the net for the best deals on the 8 on clearance...

I can't stand MoGo, and fear the day they change the axiom.

Any word on when the Ghost is going to come out? I noticed you mentioned a color change.

it is available now, we have sold several pairs of it, simple no nonsense neutral shoe, low profile

I understand it isnt on Brooks' site as they are not very dep in their inventory of it and want to be able to fulfill orders to stores vs direct sales through their website (that is the buzz I have heard anyway)

Man I wish I would have known that 2 weeks ago!! I wanted to use it for IM MOO. I'm going to just wear a new pair of T5's. Figure they should hold up since they don't have any mileage on them.

Thanks for the heads up. Now I have to go find a pair...

I was a loyal adrenaline wearer until this spring when I had a pair of adrenaline's go soft in the mid-sole after 100 miles or so. My plantar fasciitis acted up and I switched to asics 2130s. The 2130s are fine, but seem heavy. Do you think the new "bio" adrenaline's will hold up better?

I love my Adrenaline's and use them as my racing shoe for anything from Oly to HIM races. I got a mild case of plantar last season and had to add some more support in a form of an orthotic so I bought some very inexpensive Down Under inserts for $40 which helped tremendously. Just enought arch support but not too much weight gain in the shoe. So much better than running in a motion control like the Addiction or Beast which was my previous shoe. Big fan of Brooks.

I know you're not the only one doing this type of marketing but why not pay for an add if you want folks to buy shoes from your online store. I'm sure Dan would love the extra cash.

Re: Whats New....Brooks Spring 2009 [motriguy] [In reply to] Can't Post

hey sorry if you are offended, if I wanted this to be an "ad" it would not have been written in this way, and for the number of sales that may come of this vs the number of hours I have invested in writing the summaries and answering people's questions, then my hourly rate is way less than minimum wage.

I provide these "whats new" threads as information to other runners who may find it useful. I answer hundreds of emails weekly from runners with injury issues who never ever purchase anything from me and in most cases I suggest using their local running specialty stores. I do this as I feel I have can help others in some way by doing so, and sorry if this in some way is offensive to you

I have used Glycerin since V2, but the local running store said I could also use Defyance so I bought a pair.

Do you know what the differences are other than price?

And yes the neon green in Defyance 1 was pretty sick.

What did the Radius 7 become? Just wore out the last pair and wonder what the Radius evolved into....

the ghost replaced the radius, but they are slightly different shoes with the ghost being a little lower profile. So far we have had good success with the ghost, people are liking it very well

The Radius has been discontinued. Your best bet is to try both the Dyad and Defyance if you want to stick with Brooks. The Dyad and Radius had become so similar they no longer saw the need for both.

Re: Whats New....Brooks Spring 2009 [linhardt] [In reply to] Can't Post

the defyance is a non-posted adrenaline. Just a neutral version of adrenaline. Thus the defyance is not as "beefy" of a midsole as the glycerin. The glycerin is intended for larger framed runners or those looking for maximum cushioning. The defyance is similar but more for average framed runners, a little less midsole under you

larger framed runners

Is that defined somewhere? I could not find a definition on the Brooks website. I am 5'11" and 168lbs as of today, but vary between 153 and 175.

This might be a stupid question, but what feelings/pains might I experience if the cushioning was not sufficient thereby needing the glycerin vs. the defyance?

at your weight the defyance should be fine for you, if you were 220# you may be able to tell a difference between the defyance/glycerin

defyance has done well so far for other neutral runners

So with high arches, orthotics, 188 lbs......Dyad or Defyance?

It depends on the shape of shoe you're after. The Radius was pretty straight lasted and wide based for a neutral shoe, much like the Dyad. The Defyance is more of a traditionally shaped neutral shoe in that it's more curved and sculpted through the arch area. If you had to pick only one of those I think the Dyad more closely resembles the Radius than the Defyance.

Re: Whats New....Brooks Spring 2009 [JamieDPT] [In reply to] Can't Post

Got the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9 prototypes today. From the box you can see brooks is really dedicated to this 'green shoe' concept. Usually they send the weirdest colors for us but suprisingly a very good blue color arrived today. Upper looks like the GTS 8s, Fit seemed a similar maybe a little bit roomier upper. The insole has a cradle like feeling. The biggest difference is the cushion. I felt right away the increased cushion without comprimising the stability. I really can't wait to see what they have made to the new Trance 9 because these GTS 9s feel like they are a lot better than Trance 8s!
I don't know the pricing and colors though but overall these are the one below their flagship models. I think the price would be around 100???? Anyway tomorrow first run and we'll see how it feels after couple of miles. The construction between the forefoot and heel looks interesting similar to Adidas tortions.
