What’s new……..New Balance Spring 2009 Wont be a lot of shoes to report about here but a few to definitely make note of that will be good shoes. New Balance has created a new last design for a couple of their new models this season. The new last design is call PL-1 and is a performance last which will help in improving fit of the toe box with a slightly less deep toe box area as some of the last models were a little too deep for some… 1063 01/01/2009 is official release, but we will have it 12/01/08 like other Elite dealers who elect to bring it in early. Price increase to $125. Still available in widths lilke 1062 The crash pad area was changed to mimic the new 1224 (which will be released soon) It is the new DTS 2.0 design which looks like it will function really well as a softer landing zone. Toe box area will be snugged up a little over top of toes from previous version. Also features a phantom liner inside the shoe to make it function essentially seamlessly and the liner will be made with Cocona fibers to increase its drying ability. Good looking shoe. 769 also is 1/01/09 but available for us 12/01/08 also on the new PL-1 last. Has a new DTS crash pad for a softer heel strike and improved lateral release. Made with Acteva-Lite midsole. Also has phantom liner but with lightning dry material instead of cocona. Functionally should be pretty similar to the 768 993 12/01/08 release….Those who loved the old 991 but didn’t like the 992 can rejoice! The design of 993 should be much more like the old popular 991. The fit is being fixed with upper brought in and sizing should be more close to normal. Will have a DTS crash pad at lateral heel, still a PU rearfoot area for durability, has bottom loaded Abzorb SBS in the forefoot. The shoe looks as if it will transition better than the 992. Don’t know if this is a real word or not, but the 993 looks more “runnable” than the 992 was. 904 2/01/2009 release Cool looking shoe. This lightweight model will also be on the PL-1 last and features a midfoot stability web design internally in the shoe so the outsole is fully covering the plastic pieces. Should transition well and be a nice ride. Still is a lightweight stability model. Made with Acteva UltraLite midsole material. 883 2/01/09 release This is a neutral straight lasted shoe on SL2 last which will fit a volume foot and is ideally suited to flatfooted neutral runners. Has a very generous toe box and outsole is full contact with no midfoot cutout. Has Abzorb FL midsole. 749 an entry level stability shoe. Shoe offers mild stability and cushioning for runners looking for a shoe at $80 price point. Shoe is on the new PL1 last. Think that is about it for their key shoes….There are a few other shoes they are doing that are really not intended as performance shoes, more intended for the big box stores, family shoe stores etc.. Some good looking track/field product also.. Jamie Dick PT, SCS, CPed http://www.footrx.com jamie@footrx.com
