Whats New.........Mizuno Spring 09 Can't Post

What’s New…………..Mizuno spring 2009

For spring 2009 Mizuno has made a few changes. They are now using specific gender engineering with men’s vs women’s shoes made differently, men’s having wider soles by flaring the midsole (The flaring is done under the first met head giving the shoe more inherent support. In addition, all men’s shoes with gender engineering will have additional rubber added to the forefoot/increased surface area providing a plush ride) and women’s having deeper longer flex grooves in the forefoot and a different landing area in the heel which is more decoupled to allow for the increased pronation that occurs with most women due to their wider Q angle and wider pelvis. The outsole of their shoes will change when making neutral vs support shoes with the neutral outsole modified with flex grooves to keep it smooth down the middle and with the support shoe outsoles designed to promote more lateral release. They are making a radical change in availability of widths and frankly IMO I am not sure this is a good thing. With the advance to the new lasts over the last year or so Mizuno shoes have generally been a much broader fit in the toe box which while allowing more people to fit into their shoes has made it difficult for those who liked the older tighter fit of mizuno to be comfortable in their shoes. Based on how the sales of their sales of the widths went over the last year they are no longer making as many women’s wide widths but have added narrow widths to their line-up for women. So on to the shoe (The AA was specifiely designed to win back the customers that were alienated when they changed the last a few seasons ago). (Ortholite sock liner added to all gender engineering shoes. This will add that plush out of the box feel to these four shoes).

Nirvana 5 1/5/09 Price increase to $140 Big change in the wave plate of the shoe. Mizuno found a way to now make their pebax (plastic material found in their waves) in varying density. So now instead of having the soft rubber plate laterally and the larger pebax mendially, the nirvana will have one continuous pebax plate which is denser firmer plastic along the medial side essentially creating dual density even in the wave. (Sorry, I miss spoke the Nirvana will not be more supportive than the current model, rather a smoother transition and plush ride). Mizuno is going green with Pebax Renew. Pebax Renew will be implemented into all gender engineering shoes. Pebax Renew incorporates the Castor plant into the construction of the wave plate allowing Mizuno to decrease the amount of petroleum product in all gender engineering wave plates. Pebax Renew will allow Mizuno to manipulate the density of the wave plate, firmer or softer when needed). The end result is a more stable better transitioning shoe. New Ortholite sockliner also will improve the softness of the shoe’s feel. 12.9 oz mens and 10.8 womens.

Inspire 5 12/5/2008 Price increase to $100 mens still in D and EE but womens now only in AA (its last decreasing by 2 mm) and B 2 color options for men and women but the width only in one color. (Mizuno will hope to build on last year’s successes with Inspire as their fastest growing model by rolling out Gender Engineering.) Ortholite sockliner for softer try on feel.
Nexus 3 1/05/09 Value oriented shoe still at $80 but now with smoothride engineering. For the money a good value as an entry level shoe (with mild stability and a nice feel).

Elixir 4 1/05/09 Price increase to $105 Great looking shoe! Mens 9.4 oz womens 7.7 oz. Still has the G3 outsole, (No gender engineering, just an upper change).

Ascend 4 (trail shoe) 1/05/09 $90 midsole heights at 21/9 make this the lowest profile of their shoes (just what you want for stability on the trail) New outsole with longer thicker lugs and better for wet grip

Renegade 4 no changes

Alchemy 8 color update 01/05/09 mens gray/yellow womens pink widths still only in the original carry over color (womens still available in the D width)

Creation 10 01/05/09 gets gender engineering and two-stage Ortholite sockliner for softer feel. The infinity wave design is improved with the columns/posts between top and bottom plates now being rubber instead of plastic as before. Should create a much better impact reducing feel. (Gender engineering is implemented into the bottom lateral plate of the infinity wave providing a plush ride. The enhancement to Dynamotion Fit – thin mesh straps to hold the tong in place, also found in the Wave Nirvana).

Rider 12 12/5/08 early release (along with inspire). (Gender engineering will improve the function of an already great shoe.) Price increase to $100 mens and womens both in 2 color options with widths (mens EE and womens AA) being in only one color. IMO we will miss the womens D width but across the country in other running specialty that doesn’t seem to be the feeling. Not a lot changing other than the widths and the gender engineering, should still be a great shoe, ortholite sock liner for improved step-in try on feel.

Precision 9 01/05/09 just a color update.. (best version of precision in last few years BTW!)

RACING SHOES

Wave Universe 2 (no changes)

Wave Ronin 2 1/05/09 Price increase to $95 new upper for improved fit. The shoe looks really good as a neutral flat

Wave Musha 1/05/09 replaces the Wave Revolver as a “stability” racing shoe with a very mild amount of medial support 7.8 oz Bright shoe, you better be fast to wear this! The color is called Poison Green/Black-Orange Popsicle! Musha translated roughly means Warrior in Japanese.

Updates to some of their track shoes as well, mostly are color ups. Field shoes are I believe unchanged.

I think that is it….no images yet, will post em when I get em..

Are the Ronins staying red? I dig'em! Might need to stock up if they're changing colors :)

Also love the Precision that just came out

I used to run in the Wave Spacer and loved it. Now I run in the idaten 2 which is great also. Tried the precision 8 and there wasn't enough support. Do you have any recommendations for a racing flat similar to the Spacer and Idaten?

Go look at all the running forums. Maybe only people who complain tend to post when a shoe changes but I continue to ask "WHY?" do you feel you need to make "advancements" to a solid shoe that was selling well (version 9). How have versions 10 and 11 sold compared to 9? Bring back 9! Disgruntled former WR 9 runner

I hear the same complaint from others, but mizuno seems convinced that the overall sale have increased since the switch to the new lasts

They are too light. I like a lighweight neutral shoe but not a racing flat, like the WR and now I'm having trouble with ProGrid ride 5 versus the 4. I've run in Cumulus, through model 9 then they changed and the old Addidas Supernova Cushion. Any other recommendations. Thanks. I'm having lots of shoe troubles lately and getting a blister on the ball of my right foot. I think its from the wider toe box. Frustrated. Thanks

I've been waiting patiently for this update Jamie :)

I heard there was a new model slotting in the neutral line between the Rider & Creation, but I forget the name? What gives?

Creation 10 - "new sockliner for softer feel" - so are they keeping that ridiculous "dynamotion heel" thing with the crossover cut on the ankle that they put on the 9s? I moved away from this shoe (to the Rider) for this reason only...

Ronin 2 - "new upper for improved fit" - can you describe this in a little more detail? I'll be pulling the trigger on some new racers soon and a little offput by the height of the heel on the last version (I chafe easily on the achilles)...any changes? Colour?

I would look this up but your posts are much more informative...thanks dude!

Still has the Dynamotion collar but instead of a piece of elastic around the arch they're using a softer, neoprene-like material. I think the whole Dynamotion thing is a solution to a problem that nobody really had.

One other thing to note on the W's narrow widths. Mizuno is doing a separate narrow midsole mold a la' Asics. Most brands just take the medium width mold and use less fabric in the upper when they do a narrow width. I have to admit I've asked for a narrow width W's Rider for years and think it will do well. My experience has been that anyone who really needs a wide width is probably not going to like most Mizuno's even in the wide widths.

Is there really a problem with people finding shoes wide enough?

2 years ago it seems as though every shoe got a 1/4 inch wider and that let my feet slide around. The result was blisters on my toes. On the advise of a local shoe store I switched to woman's shoes and they fit much better.

Now I don't have narrow feet but I was a speed skater for many years and played hockey for a few more so I am used to shoes that don't alow much movement inside of them. In my opinion, movement inside of shoes = friction = blisters.

Is the changes to the woman's shoes really significant or is it just marketing? I appear to be able to run in just about any shoe but I prefer the Rider for the bulk of my miles and the Elixer for racing and faster training. The Precision's toebox didn't agree with my feet.

No plans for a model between the Rider and Creation.

from my in house rep at mizuno

"Creation 10 will have the Dynamotion ankle collar with better casting (shape) in the heel counter. We finished off the seams where some folks were feeling a ridge (specifically the area where the ankle collar is sewn down) and eliminated the AP foam layer over the top of the last board. We also did change the tongue strapping from elastic to stretch mesh. I have heard really good things about the new Creation in wear-test! I'm really looking forward to the new changes."

Ronin will have a new upper with the traditional triangular dynamotion panel found in our trainers instead of the straight panel in the current model. Midsole, Wave & outsole are unchanged so still 22mm heel. Color is orange popsicle (get ready Vol fans) silver & black.

Re: Whats New.........Mizuno Spring 09 [JamieDPT] [In reply to] Can't Post

hi jamie

i recently purchased the wave ascend 3. great shoe!!! The color, olive green, (which does matter sometime) is awesome! hate the red color though. Any chance the color might be kept the same in ascend 4? I also wear elixirs for regular running and other mizunos for my work. One thing i have noticed is that the price has been steadily increasing. Two years ago the elixirs were, i think, about $80 or so. Now they are over $100 which is insane! Why so much the price increase?

But, you know what, they are the best shoes out there, at least for me :).

Re: Whats New.........Mizuno Spring 09 [scj] [In reply to] Can't Post

next color of ascend is orange/charcoal for men and periwinkle blue/charcoal for women

some of the price increase is that it was originally underpriced compared to other shoes with similar function, then as the prices have all jumped it has too. I hate the pricing has changed so much in the last year on everything, not just this model or brand but everything across the board is going up
