What did you pay for your P3C
Can't Post
I am selling the P2 and making the jump to the P3. Just curious what you all paid for your factory build 2008 P3C's. My LBS is sitting on a ton of stock but refuses to deal, saying that they will lose their Cervelo dealer contract if they deviate from MSRP. Sounds like BS to me, so I am looking elsewhere for the best deal. Your input is appreciated.

I have a 2007 which I picked up last January off of E-Bay for $2,500 complete factory build (which I think is a steal, considering a P2C frame alone costs a little more). The store even had it marked down to $3,000, but I guess no takers. If you have a little time and patience end of the year is usually a good time to buy.
I've never found a LBS willing to make any deals, however once in a while some have some super deals (i.e. once a year a LBS has 50% one item which covers anything in the store, including bikes, but their selection is limited).

I didn't buy a p3c from my LBS but just bought my fiancee a bike and another bike they best way to get a deal at the LBS I have found is to pay sticker for the bike then have them throw in pedals, shoes, helmet, computer, shorts, a new jersey. As far as you want to go with it they are more willing to take those things into the deal seems like. If you don't "need" any of these things this type of deal is the wrong approach but it has worked well for me. You always need something to upgrade to with a new bike so good luck

I picked one up on ebay for 3100 off someone who was clearly acting as a "front" for a dealer looking to shift stock.. although it did have a bit of scratch on it.
The outlet store of my local tri-shop is also selling 2006 models for $3688.
I hear rumours of another local semi-big box store selling them for $1000 off list.

I got a used 58 in perfect condition with less than 100 miles on it (all TTs). No wheels but full DA for 1900.00. ANd for the OP, you are correct, that is BS about the dealer losing their contract if they sell you a bike for cheaper......but why should the lbs sell you a bike for cheaper???
As it turns out, what you have is less important than what you do with it...

So would you guys buy a car off of EBay with no warranty?? Any Cervelo sold off of EBay even if they tell you they are a dealer it has no warranty. Also Cervelo's crash replacement( upgrade possibilites) is also not applicable. Yes the dealer was correct in saying that he is unable to deviate, but then why should he? I can't remember the last time I was in Wally World and asked if I could pay a quarter for an item marked a dollar. So why is it that everyone wants to get a deal on the #1 selling triathlon bike? (Sorry for the rant guys, yes I know the economy is tough. But just look at it from a Cervelo Stocking dealers point. We carry every model that Cervelo makes as well as numerous sizes too. Thats a big commitment so that individuals like yourselves can come in and test ride a P3C the go hunt for it on EBay.

I buy all sorts of stuff off Ebay with no warranty.... at 25% off retail, on something that has low expected cost of failure, I'll take my chances.

Don't get me wrong, I am not looking to walk away with a brand new P3C for nothing. I just find it hard to believe that there is not any room to move on a $4500.00 bike. I doubt any of us would stroll into our local car dealership and shrug our shoulders in agreement when the salesmen says the price on sticker is what you're going to pay. Hell, I got Best Buy to drop nearly $500.00 off the price of a plasma TV a few years ago. I can only assume that if big bad Best Buy can negotiate prices so can a bike shop. My LBS is sitting on a stack of 2008 P3C's and will sell me one for $4500.00 or I can buy and '09 in about a month for, you guessed it, $4500.00. It seems a bit ridiculous. Back to previous analogy, would you pay the same price for a previous model vehicle over a current model. Probably not. I even gave them (LBS) the scenario that I could buy the bike online and save a ton of jack on sales tax alone. All they could say is, "well you won't get the service from the online dealer like you would get from us." This may be true, but is their overpriced and delayed service worth an extra $300.00 on top of MSRP. Additionally, I just returned from the LBS to find that they have got a bunch of overstock Duals and 2008 P2SL's ON SALE. Both bikes priced way below MSRP. They told me this was "an authorized sale" by Cervelo. Doesn't make much sense to me since they told me only a week ago that Cervelo's are "NEVER" priced below MSRP. It seems like some of these LBS have the mentality they are selling gold, when it comes to their bikes. I would like nothing more than to support my LBS, which is a larger "chain" store, than buy online. But there lack of desire to deal is pushing me in that direction. Maybe I should just suck it up and pay the damn LBS and be done with it. It is a P3C after all.

I bought my P3C from Tom Demerly last July for $2700.00, frame and fork only.
They took their sweet time getting it to me (5 weeks!) but managed to get that credit card charge right through...

wait a second. because the shop is "sitting on a ton of stock" ie - they have tens of thousands of their (not your) dollars invested in inventory, you feel entitled to a deal?

Welcome to capitalism, m'boy. If they aren't willing to offer competitive prices, they're not going to compete with people who are willing.

Depending on the circumstances (i.e. shop and manufacturer), don't some shops have a contract and/or consignment type of agreements with the manufacturers?

so your view of capitalism is that one dude is entitled to a deal on another dude's shit just because he happens to own a lot of said shit?
okay adam smith.
maybe the dude in question is a huge asshole that goes in and demands a deal and the people at the shop just laugh at him when he leaves. then give the next guy that walks in a better deal.
now that's capitalism. and the most likely scenario.
I love hearing the douchebags on this forum telling about walking into a store and informing the people there what they can pay on ebay for something. really? no wonder you pay full price. morons.

they may or they may not. but, in my opinion, ultimatey they get to decide what they charge. not the guy that walks in the door and doesn't currently own whatever bike he wants a deal on.
it's a good point. but that's between the dealer and manufacturer, not the guy crying over what amounts to about 5%...

"wait a second. because the shop is "sitting on a ton of stock" ie - they have tens of thousands of their (not your) dollars invested in inventory, you feel entitled to a deal?

for some reason I don't understand why the bike industry should be dealt with differently than any other segment of the economy. I know you didn't say anything to that extent, but I've gotten that impression on this forum on many occasions.
The above poster didn't ask for a free bike, he simply feels that he shouldn't pay full MSRP given the current situation of inventory. People go buy at discount stores, order stuff on ebay, buy 2 for 1 deals, etc. all the time. But for some reason one should always pay full price on tri-related products. I just don't get it.
I am also in the market for a new bike soon. And although I love the P3C I would not pay MSRP for it at this time. This bike is relative "old", inventory is good from what I can see, and the competition has caught up with the P3C. Why would I still pay MSRP? As a potential buyer I also think about the future value of the product. It's only a matter of time until a newer P3 is available and how will that affect the prices of the current version? How is the current state of the economy affecting the prices of used P3C that are hitting the market?
The bike store is in business but so is the customer. The bike store wants to make money, while the customer tries to save money or get more for his/her money. Of course there are other variables such as customer service, etc. involved but that's part of a transaction. And who cares how much money the shop has invested in inventory, that has absolutely nothing to do with how the customer should feel about the value of the product he is trying to purchase.
The bike shop doesn't have to sell for less than what they are willing to let the bike go for. And the potential buyer doesn't have to pay any more than he/she is willing to pay. Free markets at work is not really a democratic...

that's fair.
I do not necessarily disagree with most of what you said.
however, what exactly about the current economy do you feel might warrant this guy to get more consideration or a deal? is the current economy actually affecting the buying behaviors of consumers of $4500 triathlon bikes, or even those that currently own a $3000 tri bike (this person said they have a p2c and want to move up)? I contend a person looking to spend $4200 on a bicycle is NOT affected by "the current economic conditions."
he said it was a big chain. maybe they have a policy of not dealing on non-sale items? maybe they give deals to people they have done business with in the past? maybe he has never stepped foot in the shop. maybe the bike shop guy was a jerk or consumer guy was a jerk?
but once you start pointing out all the reasons you should get (arguing) a deal, I suspect your chances of getting one decrease dramatically.
anyway. he asked for input.
and the democrat thing was a joke.

Maybe not related to the topic but. Just looking at the new S3 at competitive cyclist they have it at $4500 frame/fork/seatpost..... they have the P3C at $3300 frame/fork/seatpost.... in my mind the P3 at full price is a steal..... or the S3 is just an absolute ripp off.
With respect to expecting a deal, when you go to work you want to be paid full price, you don't accept 2 for 1, or 30% discount. Why should products we buy have to have discount, thats how others are making their wage.

Hell, I leave for a few hours and we are having economics 101 regarding my thread. Listen, I didn't walk in the bike shop like a douche bag shit head moron and demand that the general manager sell me a brand new P3C for a dollar. I respectfully asked if they would move on their price. They told me no due to their dealer agreement with Cervelo. I told them I could buy online and save money on not having to pay sales tax. They offered nothing to save the sale. They then turn around and run a sale on other Cervelo stock. As far as the amount of P3C stock the LBS is sitting on, it sure seems excessive when they have over a dozen or so of them hanging from the rafters and they are starting to take delivery on their '09 stock. Simple supply and demand. You got a shit load of old product with a shit load of new clogging up your stock room. Conventional wisdom would tell you to unload your old stock (that doesn't mean give it away) at less of a profit and get your '09 stock on the floor ready to sell. I have done a lot of business at this shop. Its where I bought my P2C and it is the only area LBS that stocks tri related gear, so by necessity I shop there. I could give a rats ass if they don't want to sell me this bike. I will take my fist full of money and find another shop willing to take it from me. Pretty simple. The whole point of my thread was simply to find out what others have paid, so that I can try to negotiate the best price for the bike. Don't hate a guy for trying to get a good deal.

If it were my LBS, and I had been a good customer, which it sounds like you are it is a bit strange they did not offer some sort of sweetener.
If the P2 fits - stick with it - buy some new wheels, powermeter, or travel somewhere for a race.

I agree. I think since they are a chain store, they just are less willing to deal. I know some guys that have gotten deals from this LBS, but they all seem to have other ties to the shop like sponsorships and etc. I would keep the P2C, but I got an offer to sell that I could not refuse. I passed on the P3C the first time, I am not making that same mistake twice. Plus my kids are getting older and more expensive by the day. I figure I better treat myself now while I can still afford it.
