Vision Tech Brake Cables Can't Post

Does anyone know if these are unique to Vision brakes or can you use any brake cable with them? Thanks

Any will do. And if you're just installing the aero brake levers for the first time, you'll want to take a dab of grease and pack it into the rivet on the lever - both sides - to keep it from rattling. Works like a charm.

The end of the vision is much smaller than that of a road bike, are you sure any will do?

There are at least three different "ends" to brake cables, probably more. You can buy that small head cable just about anywhere. So, no, not "any" cable will do, but the cable is not exclusive to Visiontech.

well...Vision does have their own brake cables that would fit right into the slot. I have also bought some after market ones as well that fit right in. However, i have used other brake cables with a bigger head. It works as long as u dont mind having the "head" sticking out. But it doesnt look right.

Well not in my experience (grin)! When I got the wife and I new TT frames earlier this year, I found that due to the internal cable runs, the rear brake cables for both our bikes were no longer adequate length and needed new cables for the rear brakes. The VisionTech brake levers use cables with a 4.5mm x 4.5mm cable end and after visting 3 high end shops here in Houston, not one of them stocked brake cables with the smaller cable end for the VisionTech TT levers! Fortunately the staff at another shop I visited later in the week - a shop that is starting to do some good tri/tt bike business - was nice enough to sell me the cable set out of the box of a new set of brake levers but if someone needs to order them, they are referenced in VisionTech documentation (http://www.visiontechusa.com/downloads/TS-VT-007.pdf) as follows but my understanding is unless you locate a suitable replacement at QBP or another distributor, you will need to contact FSA to order replacements:

Only use the VisionTech "Red-Dot" brake cables provided with the Vision Brake Levers. If replacing the original cables, then it is necessary to purchase and install VisionTech "Red-Dot" replacement cable-sets (Item 670-3785). Vision Tech "Red-Dot" brake cables are easily identified by the red cable end [FIGURE B].

The Vision Tech brake cables are just the Shimano ended SHIFT cables. VT does paint the tip red to give it appeal when inserted, but it is just a plain old SHIFT cable, available almost anywhere.

Don't believe the rest of the nonsense you hear. Nobody is going to go out and make specialized cables for their system. Everything revolves around four types of ends: Mtn Brake, Road Brake, Shimano Shift, Suntour Shift.

Now your talking! But not to be contrary (just nit picky) and it probably will not make a bit of difference, but Shimano shifter cables (or at least Dura Ace) are 1.2mm diameter while the VisionTech cables are 1.5mm:

If you would like to risk it by using thinner shifter cable have at it.

I would rather have the right stuff. BTW it only costs like 9 bucks or so. Alot cheaper than a hospital visit because of a shifter cable snapping at 24 miles and hour.

Hello everyone. I'm in a pinch and need Vision Tech inner brake cables and no local stores have them. I do, however, have shifter inner cables which seem to fitr perfectly. Has anyone had success, or not like the shifter cables breaking, while using shifter cables (inner wire) on Vision Tech brake levers? Thanks, Adam

Been using shifter cables for over a year now. No problems yet.

Is it possible to produce enough force with one hand to break a shifter cable? Even with the leverage of a brake lever, you never pull so hard as to lock up the brake.

They do, but the cable diameter is wider. Some brakes won't hold the narrower cables all that well.
