Tricks for getting compression socks on in T2?
Can't Post
I bought a pair of compression socks and really like them. I used them for a brick yesterday. I am not wearing them on the bike, and found that it was tough to put them on before my run because I was sweaty. Anyone have any tips to help them slide on easier in T2?

put them on
roll them off in a nice tight donut and lay them in your shoes
when you get back in to transition, just roll them on!

I'm asking out of ignorance, not trying to be critical. Is there any research that shows a benefit in using compression socks during activity? I thought the socks were for recovery; not to mention the whole tan line thing :)

Why not wear them on the bike? What's the aversion?

I second the put them on and roll down like at donut.
At IMLP I did that and it was no problem, try wearing a pair to bed the night before...my calves always feel better in the am.

I doubt anyone could find a way to quantify any evidence saying it would improve performance. I feel like it does help though. I don't believe it is just another gadget. I would not say it takes minutes off my run, but in a long distance race I think it helps with leg fatigue. FWIW I have worn compression socks outside of racing for years. I just wish they didn't look so goofy.

I guess I don't feel they are as helpful on the bike. They wouldn't be any easier to get on since my legs would be wet from swimming. Plus, the less time I can look like Pippy Longstockings the better.

I've warn arm warmers under my wetsuit without issue. I presume the compression socks would work the same way.

I put them over a pair of running socks.
Don't want to take a chance to blister.
Yes, roll them up.

Roll them off like a donut (not all the way down to your toes though). Worked great for me at IMAZ.

Judging by what I saw at IMUSA you wear them starting on Wed all the way through the awards dinner on Monday at an IM. Be sure to wear your 3/4 cut shorts as well.

That is another good thought that I am going to try. I have worn them without any socks, but my shoes seem to fit too loose.

I'm obviously not one to base things on feelings. What did the clock say?

Earlier this year Runner's World website posted a scientific study that showed a small but statistically significant improvement in performance when wearing compression socks while running. It was something like 1% over a 5k. Sorry but don't have the link.
I started wearing compression socks for any run over 1 hour to help with calf cramps. I like them so much that I also started wearing them for all running races regardless of the distance. They just feel good. No doubt you look like a dork wearing them. I did a 5k with my wife 2 weeks ago wearing them and she asked me several times if I could try to find a pair in white (instead of black) so I didn't look so stupid!
Have never worn them during a triathlon but am going to at Savage Man 1/2 IM in September for both bike and run so we'll see how that goes.

Forgot to mention that Revel Sports (Revelsports.com) sells really nice compression socks called oxysocks for about $23 bucks a pair. Calf length, black or white.

you should wear them on the bike as well - Petr Vabrousek and Bella Comerford had a really good experience with it. Both of them use them on the bike. It does not make sense to wear them only on the run. Once you get of the bike you are tired anyway. So try to wear them on the bike and you will see that you get much fresher of the bike...
