Just was trying to have some fun...But got pounced on in another thread .
Need to put on my sunglasses when viewing this forum as many of the poster's halos are blinding me.

Are you Fu***ng crazy? Don't do both of those at once! If you want to mazimize the reciprocal nookie, don't ever put the two together. Spread it out a bit, man. Give her the car for president's day or something. Who cares if we can top it -- you NEVER will. And she knows it. She will really have you by the balls if you deliver on both at once.

Yeah, I know, but the car was more of a necessity...The other will be quite the suprise though.
Actually she's been pretty patient with hobby purchases, bike, triathlon and guitars.

The other day there was a guy asking for ideas for Christmas gifts because he bought himself a computrainer and now didn't have much left over to buy people gifts (girlfriend, I believe).
You mention "
Actually she's been pretty patient with hobby purchases, bike, triathlon and guitars
", and then mention you're getting her a car (she needs one) and a ring.
My advice to you ... and this is not my halo showing, only my experience ... it will mean more to her when you get her something BEFORE you get yourself someting. On the surface, it looks like you're "getting her something, after you've already gotten yourself things". It almost seems like it's not so much about the gift, as it is "equaling things out".
I'm not pretending to know everything about you and yours, I'm just going by what I interpret from what you've told us. I look at it like this, If I buy myself a new computer and then later on, buy my wife something nice to "balance it out", it's not real impressive to her. BUT, if she knows I desperately want a new computer (or computrainer or trip to IM Lake Placid or whatever) and I buy her something nice instead ... that's impressive. That shows her how much I value her. I would rather her have what she wants/needs than it is for me to get my wants/needs (Oh, how easy that is to say ... much harder to do ... especially for me). IMO, this is what it means to "honor" the ones you love.
I realize this stuff is very hard to say and read without sounding like a condeming high-horse holy rollin' sermon on the mount jackass ... I hope that's not how I am coming across. Consider it "things I wish someone would have convinced me of 5 years ago" type stuff.
Have a nice holiday. If you're girlfriend hasn't stopped smiling by late January, you should probably seek medical advice. =)

Guys, I was just trying to have some fun with everybody...I appreciate all your comments, as I know they are all sincere...But believe me, I was not being serious. Second marriage for both of us and you don't have the full story, and this isn't the place to talk about it. Thanks and have a good holiday.

Fender Highway 1 Stratocaster and MIM Telecaster...Mostly blues. I go to Warmdaddy's in Phila. on Tuesday nights for the Blues Jam. You play?

A little bit - I'm a Les Paul Standard man myself. Mainly doing Grateful Dead covers these days, but I'd enjoy most anything in the blues/rock/R&B area.
Of course it's about the equvilant of my slow ass riding a Colngago carbon TT bike with full Record, Mavic I/O front and Ghibli disc - the equipment only get's you so far!

Know what you mean...I'm so hard on myself, same as my racing...My wife laughs at me. Type A to the bone.
