Top quotes from Beijing Olympics
Can't Post
Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far during the
Summer Olympics that they would like to take back:
1. Weightlifting commentator: 'This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her
snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing.'
2. Dressage commentator: 'This is really a lovely horse and I speak from
personal experience since I once mounted her mother. '
3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: 'I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and
father.'
4. Boxing Analyst: 'Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in
boxing, but none of them really that serious.'
5. Softball announcer: 'If history repeats itself, I should think we can
expect the same thing again.'
6. Basketball analyst: 'He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't
like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.'
7. At the rowing medal ceremony: 'Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the
IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew.'
8. Soccer commentator: 'Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like
they've got eleven Dicks on the field.'
9. Tennis commentator: 'One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that,
before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them... Oh my
God, what have I just said?'

Several from Australian TV
Commenting on a fall by a Chinese girl in the gymnastics " Oh that's the first chink I've seen today."
On the womens 48kg Weightlifting "How do you get a winner if all they do is lift 48kgs?"
Quote
CHANNEL 7's strategy to dumb down its coverage of the Olympic Games has backfired against the network and dismantled the formerly esteemed reputation of TV personality Sonia Kruger. The gregarious talent has risked her popularity among the viewing public to play the role of "dumb blonde" at the instruction of network heads hoping to appeal to a non-sporting market,
Confidential
can reveal.
Formerly renowned for the witty asides and cheeky quips routinely delivered in her role as
Dancing with the Stars
co-host, Kruger has been slammed for being frivolous and ill-informed on the much-maligned
Yum Cha
morning show.
But as disgruntled viewers flood online forums and talkback radio with Kruger criticisms, an industry source has claimed the hard-working personality was instructed to deliver the various gaffes which h ave prompted the backlash.
"Channel 7 had a very deliberate strategy with the
Yum Cha
program, and that was to dumb it down in order to make it digestible for non-sporting viewers," the insider said.
"Everything on that program was scripted, and Sonia has executed the strategy exactly how Seven wanted it to play out."
Her gaffes include asking if the 48kg weightlifting category referred to the athletes or their barbells, wondering why the term "chink in the armour" might go down badly in Beijing and questioning what happened if it rained during the 800m track event.
While she may have pleased her network bosses with her blonde bimbo disposition, Kruger has alienated many viewers in the process.
It's a move that could prove disastrous to the success of the upcoming series of
Dancing with the Stars
, the linchpin of Seven's programming line-up for the second half of the year.
The reality program is marked to spearhead Seven's push to win a second consecutive year in the ratings for the first time since the 1970s, with Kruger and co-host Daniel MacPherson's roles central to Seven fighting off Nine's unexpected assault on its No.1 status.
Kruger's radio industry peers have also joined in the chorus of criticisms, with Triple M host Lehmo condemning her Olympics performance as "a disgrace".

The CBC's favorite quotes of the Olympiad:
http://www.cbc.ca/...otes-theysaidit.html
A couple samples:
"It's like I imagine being a man. It's like being kicked in the nuts repeatedly, that's how bad it feels. You feel like you want to curl up and die." — Sherraine Schalm, Canadian fencer, describing how she felt after losing her round of 16 bout to a rival Hungarian opponent.
"I'm very good at knowing where to push the line. If I ever disrespect a ref, it's because they really screwed up." — Todd Rogers, U.S. beach volleyballer.
"I have been cheering for the Canucks for how long and they still haven't won a Stanley Cup. I still love them. I hope Canadians can think of us the same way." — Brent Hayden, Canadian swimmer, when asked if Canadians would be frustrated with the swim team's performance in Beijing.
"I'm pretty angry. I'm going to write a nasty letter. This is the Olympics. It's not that difficult to organize a three-kilometre run. We've never run like this before." — Monica Pinette, Canadian pentathlete, on the organization of the modern pentathlon competition in Beijing.
(Lew, what's the story with that one?)
"Oh Lord. The second place stepped out. The third place stepped out. Hopefully Usain stepped out, too so I'm going home with the gold!" — Shawn Crawford, eventual silver medallist from the U.S., who was originally fourth in the 200-metre sprint before a pair of disqualifications.

I've seen virtually all of them on other lists (with different names associated. Most of them are urban myths.
