Tim DeBoom Can't Post

That was the best interview/article I have read on Slowtwitch. I hope he comes back in 09 and kicks ass.

Really? I will respect your opinion but I thought it was horrific as well as a disgrace to 9-11. Some one needs to buy the author a step stool because he was just reaching for a hook.

What's horrific and disgraceful? DeBoom for racing Kona after 9/11 or the author for connecting the two events as the "hook?"

I am sorry we shouldnt be doing anything around those days, heck actually it should be a national holiday of sarrow (which will be turned into a shopping frenzy like christmas or BBQ day like 4th of july)

Re: Tim DeBoom [swimfan] [In reply to] Can't Post

I was right on the finish chute that day in 2001 when Deboom won, and anyone who was there had no choice but to connect the 2 events. Every athlete in the top 25 carried an american flag down the chute (some with their own country's flag in the other hand of course) and when Deboom won, thousands of people chanted USA USA for 10 minutes...

You should go back to your role as the Slowtwitch jester. Actually have you considered changing your name to Jester?

Now, I made it very clear that people are entitled to their opinion and I think with that I am entitled to mine. I never claimed that it should be a holiday or that we should stop doing anything. I do think that using 9/11 as a hook was pitiful and disrespectful. The fact that Tim peaked at the right time that year is great for him. Relating it to all the victims and that the country was going through was disrepectful in my eyes.

I get off my soap box and you can go back to being the forum jester. Bye

Sorry, I'm having a real hard time figuring out why it was "disrespectful?" as a previous poster stated, Tim, an American, won the event and he and others crossing the line gave an emotional boost to many who needed it at that time. Seems this is all the author was saying.

I think I am reading the wrong article cause I can't see anything disrespectful. it is the narrow minded jerks like you turn everything into a political debate.

It is probably my bad. I am still on Pacific Time but in Kona and have not adjusted to the time and have not slept much. This is why I like to type out of a response and then close the window without posting. I will have to go back through the article and see where I could have read it incorrectly.

Not at all. And I have made it very clear how/why I am here. You can look through my posting history if it is of such interest to you.

I was spectating Kona last year when I came across Tim in the morning at the pier. At the time, I liked the guy so I wished him good luck and tried to shake his hand- he briefly glanced at me and said "I dont shake hands" and turned away. I was shocked, I didnt expect that from him..

Not an unwise protocol to avoid getting sick last minute. Can't say I blame him, though it may come across the wrong way.

Re: Tim DeBoom [thunderbear] [In reply to] Can't Post

I met him last year at the NY Marathon, just before the start. I went over to him shook his hand and congratulated him on his great Kona performance. He was very cordial, we chatted for a few minutes and he wished me luck in the race.
Nice guy. Oh, and awesome interview.

Just wanted to let you Tim shook my hand after his bike fit today. It must have just been because he didn't want to check a virus from you the week of the race.
