Swimming in Melbourne, Florida Can't Post

I am traveling to Melbourne tomorrow to spend the holiday with family. Do you have any recommendations for places to swim. I'm partial to outdoor pools but will swim wherever I can find a lane. I don't have a the area well enough to give you a specific location but would appreciate any recommendations. Any open water swims during the week.....should I bring a wetsuit?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

If you don't mind open water swimming in ocean by yourself, look up where the recent "health first" triathlon was. I did this race and the swim was very nice. Intercoastal water, but relatively clear. If go in morning, no boat traffic to worry about. It's right by the civic center. Should not need a wetsuit yet!

I used to leave there. Brings back a lot of memory.
On one side you've got the ocean. then you also have the Indian River Lagoon.
I was not into swimming back then, but I am sure there are a bunch of open water swimming either in the ocean or the Indian River Lagoon.

Fred.

There's an outdoor pool Called Gleason in Indian Harbour beach(across the causeway), with plenty of swim lanes... Open water swims have pretty much faded with the season but were typically on thursdays in the river...

The nourth county pool in Sebestian is a great new facility...about 15 mins south.
I spend a lot of time in Vero, same concept as a previous poster mentioned in regard to Melbourne...Ocean on one side the Indian River on the other. The ocean has still been a bit stirred up this week, but if you can find a spot the river should be fine.

I think some one already mentioned Gleason Park... but it is just over the Eau Gallie causeway (Island side), take your first left (their will be a Publix plaza on the corner of where you need to turn) and then take a right at the next light.
The pool isn't visible from the road... or even from the park entrance. But go almost to the back of the park and you will see it on your left. it is $3 for non-residents.
Have fun swimming and enjoy!

Melbourne Florida is my hometown, well, way out on the barrier probably closer to sebastian than Melbourne.

Regardless, in addition to the ocean, Indian river or Gleason park beachside there is also a pretty nice new pool in Palm Bay:

It's been a while since I've been to Gleason even though I'm from beachside, I wasn't into Triathlons at the time. While I rarely have much good to say about Palm Bay the pool there is a relatively new facility, less crowded and I believe it's treated with Bromide (sp?) instead of chlorine, so it's a little like swimming in salt water rather than a bunch of chlorine.
