Stadler to race Placid??
Can't Post
Just saw this on IM live. That would be really cool to see him come to LP and challenge the bike course record.
Stadler's official press release
We received this earlier today:
Normann Stadler has to cancel IRONMAN Frankfurt because of illness:
“I absolutely wanted to participate, but the doctors forbade it.”
Frankfurt, 4th July 2008. Because of a compounded influenzal infection, Normann Stadler who won two times Ironman Hawaii, can not participate in the IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt. The captain of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team had to announce the staggering news this morning, after having won the International German Championships (middle distance) only four weeks ago.
“I wanted to start at any price, but my medicals clearly told me to risk my health by doing so,” disappointed Stadler stated. “If the doctors would not have strongly advised me not to race, I would have done the race with the last of my strength. I feel endlessly sorry for my fans and my sponsors. Now I am going to do everything I can to support my team colleagues Jan Raphael, Markus Fachbach und Maik Twelsiek in Frankfurt and I will show in Hawaii what I am able to.”
Stadler is going to compete on the next Ironman on the 20th of July in Lake Placid.

Apparently they are not doing this year. There's a pro men and women's field this year.

why not, doctors wouldn't mind that race with no drug testing - I'm assuming that cause IMCDA didn't have one

I believe the bike course record is 4:33 at Lake Placid set by Steve Larsen back in 2001.
Maybe Bjorn or Normann can break it...either way it will be a good battle

are you saying that IM placid doesn't do drug testing? I am just curious since I thought they tested at every wtc im, and if not at least every NAS race. I thought stadler's new dresdner team has super strict testing....
As far as the disappointment over normann not racing Frankfurt, I completely agree. Macca pretty much decided that he would enter the lions den and race the germans on their biggest stage and now stadler is out...it's too bad cause with all the live german tv it was going to be a great thing for IM in general. Plus It'd be good to see macca have race against faris and normann in a non-hawaii setting where they might risk more on the bike without the lava fields haunting them.
as far as who is the favorite in frankfurt now, how could u pick anyone else? macca.

They alternate every other year with the men's and women's "North American Championship" thing if I remember correctly. Last year the female pros were at Placid and the male pros were at either CDA or Wisc. I think.
I think that Bjorn and Fritschke (sp) are racing, so it should be a solid pro men's field.

I can tell you first hand about IM Canada 07 and second hand IMCDA 08 (my athlete was on the podium) - absolutely nothing in that matter. Very disturbing, only hope here it's decreasing price money : ((
as for "Team Tests" - may be I'm too cynic, but to me it means that team "staff" controls the drugs level and recommends athlete to back off a little or DNS. It's great to have officially 100 000 EUR for that.... It was funny to listen today TDF comments on 2 new US team with own testing - as naive as it's was to get cycling in that S...T

in 06 i bailed in LP after the bike and hung around in transition licking my wounds. there was a guy who was definitely doing the drug testing. cant remember exactly where he was from but he was all business.
just a general comment:
this speculation and innuendo about athletes doing drugs that has taken place over the last few days on this board has got to stop. im not naieve or stupid but we live in an age of pure cynicism. im the most cynical but have the common courtesy to keep it to myself. by remotely associating peoples names with their potential use of drugs (when totally unproven) you can be risking their potential to gain sponsors as well as their livelihoods. it simply is classless and wrong. so unless you have the written report of an athlete with a proven failed test, keep your mouth shut.

why? the athletes people have been most vociferous about attacking without failed drugs have also proven to be drug cheats over time. take your pick -- bonds, mcgwire, sosa, marion jones, regina jacobs, tim montgomery, clemens, kraft, etc. where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

They did away with the separate men's/women's pro fields for the North American Championship idea. When they did it NAS doubled the prize purse for that gender and there wasn't any available for the other. Without the money the pros of that gender didn't show up.

Mag900,
I've seen you name people on here and call out athletes as not having "balls", all without the decency to put your name in your profile. YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE MAKING ANY CLAIMS! Seriously, the fact you would even ask "why?" is disturbing. He was very clear, (as if it is even necessary to explain), as to why. Seriously dude, it's one thing to have an opinion, but entirely another to bash people by name, ANONYMOUSLY, and now you're thinking it should be ok to make unfounded claims that certain professionals are on drugs? You're either ignorant or have an agenda. Seriously, DO NOT DO THAT. There are a lot of people who read this board within the industry, and a professional's reputation is very hard to build up, and easy to destroy.
I really hope you get the "balls" to put your name to your posts before you continue with this type of behavior.

IMCDA this year did not have drug testing. However, last year they did. XTERRA West last year had it, this year did not. IMAZ last year had it, but I don't know about this year. There really is no schedule they follow, WADA and USADA just show up or don't.
Last year Stadler agreed to blood testing at IM Germany, so to think he was cutting this year because of drug testing doesn't make much sense, and is unfounded.
Not sure how decreasing prize money is good idea, or even relevant.

Lothar will smoke his a** on the bike. But IMHO Alex MM will be the winner (again) based on his run. Strong and getting stronger every race. Best of all, no drama ever. Just a truly great and humble guy who loves the sport. Very nice to see these days.

IMCDA this year didn't have drug test, IMC last year didn't have drug test - that's what I said.
Last year Stadler agreed to blood test, this year he decide not to race. I just don't understand your point - how is last year relevant to this year's conditions? I do believe you don't use epo (or acting really nice), otherwise you would know how many days you need to be "clean" for the test...
Sorry, I couldn't bring humor about price money in English well enough - the fact is that it was 20G in Lake Placid 4 years ago, then we've got man/woman separate Champ. and money was cut to 14, now it's back to normal and we've got 12.000 - the only good of that situation I can figure out is that it wouldn't worth to spend more on drugs then you can win in the race : (

who have i named on here who has not been nailed for PEDs? sosa? mcgwire? bonds? if you think that they are clear, all the more power to you. the rest of them have been nailed. don't give me any bs about how i have been making "unfounded claims that certain professionals are on drugs." seriously, who have i called out that hasn't been nailed??? more importantly, which triathletes have i called out other than kraft? i anxiously await your response on that one because i know the answer. if you have an issue with people blasting proven drug cheats, then you are the one with the problem and not i. PEDs are an enormous problem in nearly every sport and if you enjoy sticking your head in the sand about it, then i don't know what to tell you. you are attacking the wrong person on here if you think that i have been making unfounded claims about pros on drugs and it would behoove you to focus your energy on the people who actually are doing that on here.
as far as calling out 25-31 in the men's oly 10k, yes, they don't have balls for filing an arbitration brief. it probably would have been fruitless but it was the right thing to do and little was willing (actually begging them) to do it for them. personally, i didn't really care because none of them would have been a factor in the race last night. it just chafes me when i read so many posts claiming that the usatf screwed these guys. if they felt so screwed, then they should have done something about it (or at least tried) and they didn't. end of story. the bottom line is that we got the right 3 guys in the olympic 10k no matter how circuitous of a route it took to get there.
