So what did you do on New Year's Eve? Can't Post

Wife and I are renting a couple of movies and drinking a bottle of wine just like any other Friday night. How exciting. You know you're really over the hill when.....

Actually, I haven't really done anything on New Year's of any note for about a decade. When I was younger there were always house parties or we'd go out somewhere and make a big deal of it. The last time I went out for New Year's about ten years ago was to a fancy restaurant followed by going later to a bar with a good R&B band. Got up the next morning with a hangover and my wallet being a few hundred dollars lighter. That's when I decided "who needs this".

How about you?

I ran a hard 8km on track.
now I am resting.

nothing fancy. don't see why I should party more one day than an other.

last time my wife and I went out clubbing for NYE (fairly common in France), we had our jackets stolen from the lockers with her purse etc...
finished the party at the police station to declare the whole thing...

the people of the club got arrested 6 months later...they were running a big scam.

No alcohol, no junk food, no stress and no party.

Start the new year the way you wish to spend it...

I'm with you on this. I'm too scared to be out and about New Year's Eve. People just get too crazy. Besides, who could we get to sit with the kids this eve?

Slight hijaak, but cool story...

Two years ago, my boss took his wife to New York (he lives in Orange County, CA.) to experience New Year's Eve at Time's Square. So, there they are, in the midst of thousands, with the ball coming down. At midnight, they do what everyone does and kiss. Right after the kiss, he turns and is face to face with his next door neighbor and his wife. Neither knew they were going to New York. How random is that?

We hear of these stories. It really is a small world. One time I was in Germany for a week and walked into a restaurant. Who was sitting there, but a woman a knew in Canada. What's the chances?

Going to a road race, 5K starts at 11:45pm, the trick is to finish before the new year. OH, watching the Twilight Zone Marathon before I leave.

Did an hour on the MTB - muddy as hell, but awesome - except for the part where i messed up my chain and lost my little ring :(

Got home, cleaned the bike, cleaned me, and now I am off to a nice dinner then some pool.

Happy New Year!

Skiing in Northern Michigan with the family. Also took a skate ski lesson today. I really liked it and plan to add it to my winter training regime.

I did a 10K run 50K ski with 15 other training friends this morning at 7:30 am. Tonite, my wife and I are having an old friend (actually the guy who got me into Ironmans 14 years ago) and his fiance over for dinner.

Happy New Year folks.

The wife and I just got back from the gym (6pm), where we swam 2k then took an hour spin class. We're making some pizzas, going to walk the dog, then watch IMLP and IMC. I'll probably be asleep by 11pm, then the neighborhood will wake me up with their pots, pans and fireworks. A perfect night...I'm not a big New Year's guy.

Re: So what did you do on New Year's Eve? [cerveloguy] [In reply to] Can't Post

So far my New Year's Eve is going pretty well. Woke up, had some breakfast, read a little and then went for about a forty minute or so run. I'm staying in Waikoloa and the sweatloss over here is just incredible; I'm totally soaked after about 15 minutes. After the run I cleaned up and got ready to go golfing for the second time in three days, and it marks the third time in about five years. I used my brother-in-law's clubs and shoes and they were much nicer than the rentals I used a few days ago. My family golfs regularly, so they gave me another generous handicap of two strokes per hole. I shot 62 on the front nine, and then they decided we should play skins on the back nine. Apparently I bring it up a notch in competition, as I then proceeded to shoot a 52 and took eight of the back nine skins, for a grand total of $72, or $52 ahead. We are going over to the Hilton in about three hours to see what Tower of Power is all about. That should be pretty funny, but we'll all have a good time I'm sure.

Lots of goats out on the course taking advantage of the greenery. We must have seen about 30 or 40 different goats.

Hmm...unfortunately you can't see the trophy all that great, but it's pretty cool looking, as is the $72.

Alright, here is a slightly out of focus shot of the trophy. Good times.

My wife and I are at my parents house back in Michigan. We're watching dvds ("Fifty First Dates", "Starsky and Hutch" and "Office Space") and pigging out. I'm sittin' here, typin' this, and sipping a little Turning Leaf white zinfandel. The spousal unit's in the family room with my mother watching the Adam Sandler movie and my dad's channel surfing the bowl games/sports shows. I'm flying back to Honolulu tomorrow, and the wife's back at her federal civvie DOD auditor job in Livonia starting Monday. We're popping a bottle at midnight, and then home to bed about 1:00AM. I run back and forth between this stuff and kidding around with my wife and mother.

I did run a fast (6:00-6:30/mile pace) 30 minutes earlier today, outdoors, so it wasn't a total wash ;-)

I'm sick (the damm flu), my wife left me alone and went to a party with friends. Is it fair to be pissed off?

I'm lying around moaning in pain with my back in spasm and no skin in my armpits. I did the traditional swim of 105x100yd on 1:30 today. The problem was, I thought the traditional swim was tomorrow, so earlier in the morning I did an upbeat 3000m at my club - until one of my friends asked why I wasn't swimming at the other club to do the 100's. whoops.

As someone who learned how to swim late in life, I'm pretty psyched to hit a 12,000+ meter day. That's huge for me.

Kind of killed the new year's eve plans, but it was so worth it.

I'm staying in w/ the kids while their parents go out to a party. Just finished up w/ dinner and built a fire. My 2 1/2 yr old goddaughter just came out and asked where mommy was - gone. Daddy? gone. She got a huge grin on her face and took off for her room. I just found her watching TV, buck naked. Asked me for a pillow and a blanket. Oh well...

hahahahahahahha (the laughter of a broken man here folks)

woke up (working nights and went to bed at 5:30am) at 10am to my wife telling me not togo panicking (famous last words) but that our basement was covered in about 3 inches of water. Seems our recent rain soaked prespring defrost wasn't such a good thing after all. We must be the low water mark for our entire hood because the $120 little pump I bought at noon has been running constant at a rate of 300+US gallons per hour ever since...and hasn't had a break yet. What did I do new years eve? Pumped water. What am I doing new years day? Jumping in chilly lake Ontario..after about another 5hrs sleep. Glutton for punishment? Oh yeah..isn't that what being a triathlete is all about?
