actually that is not strictly speaking true, my wife for example races crits, road races, tri (up to HIM this year) running races) on a regular basis, and cyclocross in the fall. And before you mention it she has 4 IM under her belt as well. I know a few STers who race a number of different disciplines in a single season and definitely in one calendar year.

Your wife rocks!

So far this year I've raced tri, road, crits, cross and on the track. I need to get an open water swim race and a running road race in to be well rounded.

Re: Revelation...why roadies have "issues" with trathletes :D [trackie clm] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm a pure roadie and quite frankly can't stand to ride with triathletes.

-I was out for a ride with some tri-folk where I work and on 2 seperate rides guys fell down at a stop light? huh?

-Riding in a paceline isn't riding within 10ft of your next wheel.

-Why do triathletes freak when I'm riding 5inches off their wheel?

-For some reason doing a ride with a group the only speed is a zone 3 mash dead zone pace. Not too smart unless you want to burn out quickly

-Why all the spacers

-Why the funky bike setups?

-Why don't the majoirity ( I know some of you do ) clean your bikes?

-Aero water bottles? C'mon...

-Doing a training ride with your 4000$ wheels

-How about some style on the bike? Sleeveless jerseys are NOT cool.

-Complaints

-And WTF do some triathletes insist on riding in a paceline with aerobars?? Are you crazy? You may as well train by yourself

-Impossible to do a paceline or even explain pacing tactics with triathletes, sure you really won't be needing them but it's always good to know.

-Terrible efficientcy on the bike in every regard

-Bento boxes? And why must one eat or rather bring a dozen gels on a 2 hour ride?

I could go on and on honestly...

Clean your bikes!

On the otherhand most triathletes I meet are really nice people as opposed to some of us road guys. And there are indeed a small percentage (maybe 2%) who actually "get it". The worlds of triathletes a cyclists are indeed miles apart, and I can see every reason why they tend to "clash".

We don't have time to clean our bikes. We're too busy training. :P Oh ya, I'm supposed to kiss ass to the IMC bike support guys... I'm gonna go clean my bike.

That's right. I'll be ruthless on the course this summer. Beware for the dude with the ridiculously stylish eyewear!

It is the cool/notice me!!! factor...must be. Here is why...So you have this roadie who took out a second mortgage, cashed in his (not his/hers...chicks are too smart for this) investments and bought this super duper titanium/unobtanium/whateveranium bike. He goes for a ride...and nobody looks at him twice. The thing is that his gazilion dollar bike is no different then Joe Average's sport/commuter bike

...............................................................................................................................................
A second-mortgage bike makes a 4k bike seem like a bad facsimile of a bike. I want a bike that costs more than a car because they feel sinfully sensuous, and are a work of art. Gazillion $ bikes feel like they are worth 2gazillion.

I like to be irritated. On my bike, I'm irritated by anything that is oblivious to what is around them. Next to that, there's not too many ways to get to me.

Funny. I was just watching the opening of stage one of the tour on OLN and they interviewed George Hincapie. What's up with him and sunglasses? He's always wearing some of the fugliest things. The things he had on today were really awful. If that's stylish, I'll be content with my $5 frameless Nashbar specials.

That may be a factor, but I'm not convinced it is 100% of it. I wrote about this topic a while ago here:

Interesting that you just registered on this forum and started posting and you work for a shop that caters to TRIATHLETES, yet nearly every single post of yours slams triathletes in some way. Nice.

There is a distinct difference between slamming and poking fun on style while riding on the bike, which is what I'm doing. Harmless fun, don't take it so seriously, added I'm pointing out some differences, heck you should see the amount of flaws cyclists have and how we can take a page or 2 from the tri community.

Secondly did I not say that Triathletes are some of the nicest poeple out there? No need to stereotype.

Thirdly I didn't JUST join this forum I have been part of it for 4 years, just simply changed my user name.

Fourth every single post I make does not make fun of triathletes, care to see the 1,800 or so posts I have made?

Fifth, I work at a Tri specific/bike shop. So? I work on bikes and help customers make informed decisions when purchasing items. Once again no need to get all in a tizzy and start pointing fingers.

Roadie here, primarily, as well.

Apparently, the chase was on behind us and at about 15 miles we were overtaken at a stop sign by a pack of about 30 riders...

Hey Bob,
If stop signs have any meaning to you at all, you are not a roadie. :)

FYI--you can actually edit your profile instead of making a new one. Brand new poster who has just registered looks a little suspect.

What's the deal guys? Can't we all just be united in the fact we aren't the typical couch potato that watches tv all day and wonders why they're in such bad shape?
