Love the frame.......the graphics are awful .........just make one with very subdued brand names........nude carbon would be cool.

Brad,
I got to see the very first CD 0.1 that was sold last weekend. Martin, one of our athletes, brought it by after he was done getting a final fit. That bike is georgeous.
You push the pedals and it goes. You're not going to lose much power through that bike. Great work.

shep,
The Blade is a work in process. We've forced several design and fab elements that I haven't been completely happy with. There are a couple on the road. Feedback and more testing are needed. It will be available soon.
jpflores,
Thanks for the comments on what you saw. We're playing with some milder graphics that excentuate the lines that can only be witnessed and felt and are near invisible in the photos.
S19,
This design can be set up in a UCI legal format. My original concepts were more aggressive than our feedback group were comfortable with. I found the aero we needed and was able to lower my finger toward the UCI and have a more market friendly bike.
Herbert,
Thanks, buddy. There's no better feeling having a strong German MMA fan guarding my back (smiles).
TriMike,
No insult taken for sure. We're a small company and need to multi-task often. Much respect and I hope you found my answer as open and honest.
Maxximus,
Thanks to you guys, new ideas are brewing. Just today, some cool images were created that I think you'll approve of. How do you suggest we open some of our ideas for your feedback?
Marvanett,
Thank you for your impression. To me, the ride is much more inspiring than I expected. The asymmetric design is very cool to see from the pilot's view point. It may just be in my head, but I think I can actually feel the efficiency (power transfer of course, but mostly the aero flow).
Deano,
A northern monkey taught me well in spite of a great deal of pikey influences.
Gregx,
Dan (Slowman) mapped the geometry. At that point in time, he hadn't yet developed the ST geometry calculator and was relying on my tools as we sat on his couch at Xantusia. A 48mm rake fork brings the 72° head angle to life and maintains a nice balanced feel by not letting the trail not get too out of hand. As for the D1 protocol, I'm still expecting to have the data sheet up on the website very soon (possibly later today) as it will explain in greater detail than I can here.
Best,
Brad DeVaney

Thank you for the info Brian. Nice updates on the website. Regarding headset topcap, how many mm does that add to headtube and are you doing any "aero spacers" to mate up with 3T ventus?
Does the shift technology work equally well in both wind directions at 10degrees, i.e. coming from driveside and non driveside?
Having looked at the data on your site, i'm impressed with the seduza, but it does make me wonder how the margin of aero improvement of the CD is so small, given all the improvements in in the CD design (seat tube, brakes, wind tunnel development, technology). I know QR talk about the CD as being a huge development, but the numbers say otherwise? What's your take on that?
One final question, I read that the CD is a limited edition, but you mention other colour options you are looking at. Could you clarify that.
Thanks

Will the new HED Stinger Disc fit on this bike? And by interesting build, does that mean complicated? What is the cable routing like, better than Felt's or Cervelo's? Are the brakes easy to adjust with the new wide rim HED wheels?

S19,
The choice of HS top cover height will be fit dependent. QR isn't producing any aero spacers, but there are more and more nice systems appearing. I'm not aware of any incompatibilities.
SHIFT was tuned and works nicely within a 60deg. yaw sweep (+30 to -30). It isn't wind direction specific in it's performance gain. The data shown was an effort to keep the comparison simple and draw more interest and questions (honestly). I'm sure there will be much debate (laughs).
You're correct in the seemingly narrow band of performance gain between our Seduza and Cd0.1. Much work was done to improve the Seduza, Caliente, and Lucero (same mold). Maybe too much? Until now, the major aero focal point has been on Body Axis drag. In this category, you'll see the Seduza lacking a bit more. I've tried to capitalize on improving stability and wind axis characteristics. This is where I found that we had a greater opportunity for improvement. Numbers from the 1st GEN QR carbon frames were less impressive than our 2009 models (as shown in the data tables).
The Cd0.1 is in it's initial release. Future releases (likely 2010) will incorportate the input we're getting here on ST. There's no better input group ...
stitchboy,
I designed adequate stay clearances for the best wheels. The Highroad team was kind enough to allow me some testing with one of their early Giant protos that had a super narrow BB shell and other concepts that were so radical. That particullar bike wasn't capable of my super-fat HED that I use in my D1 protocol. Thanks to many friends and innovators willing to work together, I think we've considered the best parts and compatibilities. Brake track widths are a different element that will raise a bit more question upon building. All Pro level wrenches are well accustomed to moving the spacers on the brake pads or changing to a lower profile pad. This is necessary on most all bikes for an optimized setup. Unfortunately, none of the aero brakes are as easy to setup as a conventional dual-pivot, but ours are fairly simple. I've added a second level of centering and spring tension adjustment to both frame and fork. I'm really happy with the outcome. Other brands are already preparing to adopt the methods and standards QR has created in simplifying the system. We reduced a good bit of weight as well.
Regards,
Brad

You mention that the new 2009 Seduza, et al. is more impressive than the first gen. QR carbon frames. I'm assuming the first gen were the 2006(?) models? Where does the 07/08 Seduza fit in this? And what changes were made from the 07/08 Seduza to the 09 Seduza?
I'm interested because I ride an 07 Seduza, and I'm just wondering how "outdated" it is compared to these newer frames.
Thanks.

You are correct on the 2006 and 2007 models. The 2nd Gen Seduza, Caliente, Lucero frames began to trickle into our last 2008 and early 2009 production. Let's be honest, I'd love for you to go buy a new one for the aero change, but don't feel that is justification. Cable routing and positioning will be slightly better on the newer model. I expect the new post (that will fit 1st Gen bikes) will be available by May and will be a nice upgrade. Touch base with your dealer and have him get a few of the new posts on order for his/her shop (my suggestion).

Brad, I'm sure Mac told you I have possession of one show bike from TriFest (actually commuted to/from work on it today), been putting some good miles on it when I'm not sitting on airplanes.
There's a lot of directions I can go on this one in terms of just how unique and awesome this bike is, from frame and fork design to ride to geometry to front-end balance and torsional stiffness... this thing kicks ass on many planes. I'm a hell of a lot more impressed than when I first saw it. This thing deserves place with the P3, P4, Transition and TTX, it's that good. If you play your cards right this year with this bike, QR will become a major player again; this is your Phoenix.

I've been down with pneumonia for the past couple of weeks and made no progress. Yesterday was my first day back in the shop and I'm very happy with what was accomplished. We're progressing once again in spite of still feeling quite miserable. Thanks for keeping the topic open. It's very encouraging to hear the questions.

Jay,
Thanks so much. I'm so happy that you are seeing the bike in a way to appreciate the design philosophy an function I wanted it to have. It means so much hearing these words from you. Coming from you, I feel they are earned as you always offer an honest appraisal. I enjoy reading your work. I have tried several times to reach you via others and glad we are in touch here on ST. Please stay in touch and let's find an opportunity to get together sometime soon.
Thanks again,

hope you have recovered from your illness.

(with a sheepish smile that won't hide the guilt) The Blade isn't ready yet. 2010 product plans are final and my focus has been shifted slightly. As well as new bikes, there are internal testing, and other design feature projects that have me "on the gas" at the moment. I'll be totally honest with regards to the Blade: I could have had it out last fall, but it wouldn't have been right. I'm satisfied with all but one tube. There's a feature that's never been properly done on a tri bike that must be a part of the next Blade and we're still trying to figure it out. Another trip to the tunnel with the latest ideas will get me there.
Thanks for checking on my health as well. Two milestones this week: (1) I gained weight. (2) I had my first workout today. I went for a swim at lunch. Some close friends and family are blaming me for the Swine Flu pandemic.
Keep me on my toes for the Blade. No excuses, just not willing to put a bike out that isn't ready. That would be too easy.

Is the blade price line going to be roughly what it was last year in the 8k range for the frame/fork/seatpost?
Thanks

2010 will be shown to our dealers this fall with 90% availability by October. We'll be leaking some previews sooner on product that currently doesn't exist.
Reminder: This is coming from an overly optimistic product guy. Sales and marketing strategies may change in days/months to come.
The Blade price will be determined once I (we) figure out how this crazy thing can be made (laughs). Some new tools and techniques are in development as we speak.

Great looking bike. Saw it at Kona last year and this bike should definetely turn some heads at races coming up. I want to offer myself as a tester for any of the litespeed bikes you are producing. I live a few hours from Chattanooga and could drive down to give some feedback if you wanted.
