Question: Heavy short sleeved cycling jerseys - suggestions? Can't Post

Not a big fan of long-sleeve cycling jerseys. I prefer base layer, arm warmers, and a short-sleeve cycling jersey. But, most short sleeved jerseys are made to be light and breathable.

I am looking for a thicker cycling jersey. I have checked out merino wool. Looking for more synthetic fabric. Wind blocking would be great.

Any suggestions?

a vest might be a good option, if that's not crampin' your style

Any Jersey with a Craft XC Ski base layer...PI makes some nice cool weather base layers as well.

A good wind vest should be part of every triathlete and cyclists kit. Most of the top technical apparel manufacturers make them. I use mine a lot in the shoulder seasons - spring and fall. The nice thing is that most models are light enough, that you can take them off, quickly(even while riding, never getting off the bike), roll it up and then put it in the back pocket of your cycling jersey. If you get cool, or the temp drops, or it starts to rain, just reverse things - pull the vest out of the pocket, put it on and zip it up( again, if you know what you are doing you don't have to get off the bike)

x2 on the vest.

my standard riding apparel these days is short-sleeve jersey, sleeveless base layer, arm warmers, knee warmers, wind vest. If it's especially brisk, I might add ear warmers and toe covers. Here in San Diego the mornings are a bit chilly, but it warms up after about 9. As it does, I can pocket the vest, roll down my arm warmers and remove my knee warmers.

I recommend the Pearl Izumi...I have the Optik, which they have updated to the PRO Barrier Lite. It packs to nothing, is a nice barrier to wind and chill and fits well.

San Diego by the beach, I'm using a nike cold gear long sleeve with a shortsleeve or sleeveless jersey on top. Works great and isn't uncomfortably hot when it warms up by 9-10.

wool

Wool doesn't block the wind. I am in WI and weather around now is very damp and windy. I wore wool on Sat and the wind cut through.

Vest (suggested by other posters) is a good idea. I have a very light one and a fleece lined one. I wore that on Friday and it worked well.

suggestions-
Vest- a windproof or highly wind resistant one with breathable mesh on the back.

A windproof form fitting baselayer- like this craft one

also they make great baselayers- period- like this one-

Long sleeve summerweight jerseys- with a short sleeve or long sleeve Craft baselayer- a vest- and arm warmers- gives you LOTS of options and should keep you warm down to the mid 40s, if you are working out hard. It also allows you to dress in a way that you can remove items if you get warm- such as arm warmers and vest.

Pearl Izumi in the past (not sure if they still do) made a winter weight short sleeve jersey- exactly what you were asking about. I actually have one- but have only worn it once... It was called a Kodiak Light Short Sleeve Jersey- and made in 2000. It is more wind reistant- but bulkier versus form fitting.
