Q about travel - Austin, TX Can't Post

i'm looking to stay 4-5 nights next week in the Austin, TX area. somewhere with easy access to good roads for riding, and also with relatively easy access to UT-Austin. i'm on a budget, though. any ideas or anecdotes or advice (about motels, roads, etc)?

Geezo' idea for the La Quinta isn't bad, but there are a few closer to downtown/town lake. You can actually do several rides starting from the Town Lake area and there is my favorite running trail that goes around the lake. And the area is at lot closer to UT.

There is:
Austin Motel
1220 S Congress Ave
Austin, TX 78704-2422
Phone: (512) 441-1157

Holiday Inn at Town Lake
http://hiaustin-townlake.felcor.com/
20 North IH-35
Austin
TX 78701
Tel: +1 512 472 8211

La Qunita next to the Capitol
300 East 11th Street
Austin TX 78701 US

I just had a realization - if you are coming in between the 11th to the 19th - you may have a real hard time. REALLY hard time as the South by Southwest Interactive/Film/Music Festival is going on. Everything will be booked up. Good luck - shoot me a PM if I can help or you want more info.

Oh, and there are training rides on sat/sun - about 50/30 miles all abilities.

All good info, and hopefully your trip is before SXSW, otherwise you might be out of luck. I know you said that you were on a budget, so there's one more place I want to look up for you..problem is, I can't remember the name. Its on the corner of Barton Springs and S. 1st St, so the group rides that the other poster mentioned will be down the street from you, and you can walk to downtown or cab it for a few bucks. Hooters is a block away too. I know its reasonable because my brother stayed there, and he is very careful with his money.

I will drive by on the way to work and see what the name of it is. For rides, check out Austintricyclist.com. We have a huge group ride on Saturday that starts at 8:30 and we have free breakfast tacos afterward. PM me if you don't hear back from me by 3 today.

The name of the hotel at Barton Springs & 1st is the Homestead Studio Suites. I stayed there before I moved to Austin. I found a great deal on the internet(~50/night). Nice little suite, kitchen, full size frig. Request the 1st floor so you can roll your bike right in. I think there current rate is in the 80's.

If you are looking for some hill training....and a tough ride, I can send you directions for the Pain Train. You hit a bunch of the West Austin hills in ~50 miles. (~6000 ft climbing) I can't remember the exact stats off of the top of my head...as I haven't done it recently.

For the Saturday ride, head down the road to Austin Tri Cyclist.
